St Johns AD Mike Cragg on waivers: “We feel confident we’ll know before the season opener. We feel we’ve provided the information to the NCAA that makes the case on behalf of our student athletes.” #sjubb

I’m just happy to hear that Steere is awaiting to hear about full season eligibility. That could help us a lot right off the bat. Even if we don’t play a ton of amazing competition before the second semester, the time on the court actually playing games would be of tremendous value in his development and readiness for the rest of the season. Same goes for Dunn if course.

While St. John's sent in all the paperwork for waivers for Steere and Dunn a few weeks ago, I'm told, there was communication with NCAA throughout summer about the cases and what was needed. #sjubb

Assume they can play in the Queens College exhibition game (but not regular season games) if their waivers haven't been ruled on yet?

No they can't.

Rasheem Dunn on waiver: “The possibly of not getting it [is stressful]. I just came from sitting out a whole year. I feel like I do deserve it. [I’m a] kid who did everything he was supposed to do through his college years, high school years, got good grades.” #sjubb

I think that's why we lost that guard we were counting on to be a scorer. Can't remember if we got him as an FSU decommit or lost him to FSU after he was ruled ineligible to ever play for us. Can't even remember his name, unfortunately.

Derwin Kitchen and we lost him to FSU after he was ruled ineligible

Safe to say this process really shouldn’t take this long. However, the corrupt NCAA wants to give the appearance that it has control when in reality they could give a rat’s ass about any of these kids.

Given the fact that Cragg is managing the situation I am confident that the process is being handled in a professional manner.

I did not always have that same level of confidence when others served as StJohns AD.

Curious as to why we only sent the requests in a couple weeks ago even though they have been talking with the NCAA all summer.

Agree that the NCAA has often proved to be arbitrary. That said, I feel like we are in better hands with Cragg. Just feel like he understands the process, maintains relationships with knowledgeable professionals and positions us well.

I am feeling confident on Dunn and will consider Steere being cleared for the first semester as a pleasant surprise.

Transferring school was late with paperwork needed

Steere’s Waiver request is to retain his freshman eligibility giving him 3.5 years to play as it states he has to sit out the first semester regardless instead of 2.5 years (losing his entire freshman year due to the one game and half a year as a mid year transfer). The articles appear to confirm such as they both say he won’t be eligible until the second semester even if his waiver approved.

Are you sure, because the article from New York Post says "Dunn and Steere are waiting to hear from the NCAA on waiver requests for immediate eligibility." And that's kinda the vibe I got from CMA's response at media day, he was quoted as saying if Dunn and Steere both get waivers they'd be in the mix to be starters.

Also there's been guys that have receive immediate eligibility that transferred at semester that played more games and minutes than Steere did that NCAA has already granted immediate eligibility. One kid named Jordan Phillips that played in 7 games for Arkansas last year, left at semester, and is immediately eligible this year at UT-Arlington to start the year. I would think if kids that are playing multiple games are getting immediate waivers, you would think Steere just playing in 1 game would... he's basically already sat out an entire year.
