To Lavin and the entire staff for a great recruiting effort! This does not bode well for the Villanova,s, the UCONN,s,and Syracuse who out recruit us in our own backyards. Those days are over!

To consider where we were with the rumors etc just a few months ago the results are nothing short of spectacular.

At the Carnesseca golf outing dinner last week when Lavin spoke he mentioned the 2 areas which were the biggest needs and where he thought he could best serve the program last season in light of the cancer.

#1 a healthy recovery

#2 Recruiting

Once again Lavin comes through and this should put to rest any notion that he should have come early to coach some games ( and I was one holding out hope he might come back for a few ). I'm glad that he and the staff worked their butts off recruiting ( while Dunlap handled things on the sidelines ). It would be tough to expect a better outcome than what they delivered to us recruiting wise considering what had happened

The fact that other fans are trying to accuse us of cheating without any basis of facts shows that they are terrified of where we are headed. They see how many top players have been joining the team and know that we will be a force to be reckoned with. If they didn't think we were dangerous then they wouldn't bother with all of the bull shit rumors. Good luck Big East, St Johns is here to stay

I just wished this could have happened when I was younger like in the Carnesecca/Mullin days. Oh hell, I'm still alive to enjoy it! Thank you Coach Lavin and staff!  ;)

Amen. Might give us a reason to hang around longer.

Or Rob Werdann, or - dare I say it - Zendon Hamilton. CO is a great recruit for STJ right now based on need and skill set but those other guys were premier recruits - period. There are 28 bigs (C/PF) ranked over CO in the final RSCI list. Rob (27 in class of '88) and Z (top 5 in 1994) were top recruits OVERALL. I'm ecstatic he signed with STJ but I'm also realistic.

I can't wait to see what Lavin can do when he doesn't need to replace more than half a roster. We will so be drawing big crowds and winning.

At this point, I just hope he give us more than Angelo Chol gave Arizona. I don't think we should expect greatness; I'm just glad to see a potential game-changing shotblocker. Can't recall seeing one in my St. John's lifetime.

. This kid is young. talented and can motor with our staff teaching him he could eventually become a first round pick

Chol was actually good for them last year late in the season when they started using him. Zona had plenty of other options so kept him on the bench.

I don't doubt the staff's ability at all. I meant that we shouldn't expect greatness right away. I don't think he starts, so If Obekpa gives us more than only a few points and 4-5 rebounds per game I'm happy.

Good point, we will have to see how it works out, but shot blocking is a natural talent and requires tremendous desire.
I think CO, in the little I have seen, has these attributes.
The thing I like about shot blocking is it alters games. Think Kentucky last season.
