In addition to Champagnie and Ponds, the following St. John's players have also taken home All-Met Rookie of the Year honors since the award's inception in 1981: JaKarr Sampson (2013), Moe Harkless (2012), Marcus Hatten (2002), Erick Barkley (1999), Ron Artest (1998), Felipe Lopez (1995), Malik Sealy (1989), Michael Porter (1988), Walter Berry (1985), Mark Jackson (1984) and Chris Mullin (1982).

Gonzalo lists five SJU players who were All-Met rookie of the year in the eighties and three in the nineties. Maybe Julian is the start of something similar in the twenties.

Congratulations Julian! Looking forward to seeing you listed as 6'8 on the roster:)

When you think about it, Julian had a wonderful freshmen year. Couldn't have asked for much more out of a kid who many thought wasn't a Big East level player or at the least needed a prep year to prove it. He more than proved it. Big upside going forward.

Julian had a great freshman year and has a bright future in this league. That said, I think the author is getting a little ahead of himself when saying: "he could even be considered a deep dark horse for the Big East Player of the Year".

I think the best thing Julian can do, besides work hard, is to continue to stay within himself. He seems to shine with fundamentals and letting the game come to him.

I don't know that Julian will bust out to be BE player of the year. I think of him as more of a Mikal Bridges type of player, where someone else leads the team in scoring, but you look at him, and say, you know, he's the guy that makes them so tough. A great game for him may be 17 points, 12 boards, 4 assists, great D. He may become our most valuable player, but as a guy who does everything well and is a key reason we dance.
