Congratulations CMA on earning your 400th career win tonight against Xavier.

You've had a great career to date but I have a really good feeling that the best years of your career are yet to come at St John's.

Wonderful accolade!  And at SJU nonetheless.. let's get headed to 500!

And, assuming the UCONN games does not get played (and it looks like it won't, which is just as well, IMO), he clinched his 19th straight .500 or better overall season with this win, too.

Time out, time out.  /media/kunena/emoticons/smile.png

Congratulations Coach.  Many more to come.

A shame Mike Anderson has yet to see a packed Garden rocking for SJU! It's gonna come sooner or later. I can't wait myself to get back there...

St. John’s Head Coach Mike AndersonOpening statement and on his 400th career victory… “First, I am sorry it took so long. It was a special moment with this team and I think about all of the other teams that I have had, as well as the coaches and administration that took a chance on me as a head coach. I always say that I am just a young buck from Birmingham, Alabama. I was born in football country, and here I am coaching basketball, and it is a blessing. I am very grateful. I have been blessed. This team right here is working on having a special year and I hope that this game here is not the end. Again, it is just a reflection and I never thought I would be in this position here, but I have to thank my family, my wife, and there is a lot of people out there looking out for Mike Anderson. I just want you all to know that. Tonight, we played a Xavier team that we saw [Zach] Freemantle and [Paul] Scruggs, those guys came in here shooting the basketball at a high-level, but if you look at our team tonight, we shared the basketball. Defensively, we sped them up even though they didn’t turn the ball over. It was a hard-fought win and we finished it off. We out-rebounded them, which didn’t take place in the first meeting [in January]. We are a different team than when we played them the first time and they are a different team. I am just grateful that we had a chance to get the win at home.”

Gameday gallery tomorrow but for now..

Milestones are nice, but considering where we were after 7 league games this season, a quote from Mother Theresa comes to mind.

When praise was heaped upon her and the sisters in her order for providing care for tens of thousands of the sick and dying, she said, "I never think about numbers like that.  It's always one, one, one person that we care for."

400 wins is Mike keeping his teams focused on the one game in front of them.   At 0-5, and 1-6, even our most ardent fans had given up on this team.   By focusing on one game at a time, he took a team being prematurely judged as the worst in the conference, and transformed it into one of the best.

It might be his best coaching accomplishment yet.

Congratulations Mike.   Just as you tell your teams, you likely gave yourself till midnight to celebrate, then on to the next one.

The is no one I would rather have coaching the Johnnies.

Remember those in the news media who questioned CMA's hire because he was not a "New York guy" (whatever that is).

The fact is CMA's blue collar style and mannerisms are  more "New York" than any any other coach at StJ since Louie.  Proud to have him at StJ's.

I bet more than one recruit who only months ago said "no" to CMA now regret their decision to select another school after seeing how CMA has blended talents into this winning team.

Congrats to Coach Mike. Very happy that he is the Head Coach at St. John's. Hopefully, the next 400 wins are right here in Queens.

Great to get 400 wins, for a terrific coach and a great yet humble man.

I compare CMA to Looie in the sense that they are both quick to deflect praise, they in a classy way go out of their way to compliment the oppoistion and always first thank others who helped get them to where they are.

Class personified.

Is it possible that that St. John's comes out with the Freshman of the Year, Player of the Year, Defense Player of the Year, and Coach of the Year?  I think one of those is in the bag already, they go 3-1, two of those are in the bag, and 4-0 you might get all 4 of them.  Only one I wouldn't be sure of with 4-0 is the defense player of the year, they might mess Posh around on that one.

Averages over 20 wins a season over the course of his career.  How did we steal this guy?

Mike Cragg made a mark with this one.  Had to fight off the SJU old-guard nitwits to do so.  Hopefully father Shanley trims out some of the dinosaurs.
