Non conference not done yet obviously but knowing what you know now and where you think you might be where do you think we finish in conference. I'm going with hopeful 11-9

Hopeful : 10-10
if I had to bet: 9-11

I'm no expert but I've watched a lot of the other big east teams play multiple games.  Right now, I see us in the mid to bottom half of conf.

I think Nova, Uconn, Hall, Xavier are at top....think we'll be at or below Providence & Creighton.

The opener at Seton Hall will be tough, but after that, we play 4 very winnable games.

Butler
Marquette
@Georgetown
DePaul

While there are no easy stretches in conference play, this is certainly shaping up as one of the less daunting ones.

Frankly, we probably need to win all 4 of these games.  I'm not even sure that any combination of 3-1 here will do us much good.

I had said sometime back I would wait and give my take on this team and season prospects until after we played 10 games. So after the Colgate game on Sunday I'll venture my prediction(s) on BE record and opinion on players.

I agree this is tough to predict. Right now I’d say like 9-11? But that changes if Nyiwe is as good as he looked last game or if the jump Wusu makes is as big as we hope, a couple of the transfers emerge, etc.

The lucky thing is (no thanks to St John’s and our embarrassing schedule) the Big East has performed very well as a whole OOC. Because it’s a strong league this team’s tourney hopes will be tied entirely to the league record (this assumes we don’t take a bad loss in the next couple of games which seems FAR from a guarantee) Getting a signature win or two would have been nice to have but if they can get into conference play without any significant losses then they won’t have damaged themselves. It’s a wash. Again, it’s a wasted opportunity but everything we hoped for at the start of the season will still be in front of them. Tons of opportunities for Q1 & Q2 wins all over the schedule. They just need to execute.

Some teams suck right away and stay sucky. Some teams are hot right away and stay awesome. The majority of teams fluctuate but the outcomes of the games are what’s most important. If they play bad now without taking losses but it focuses them and they start to come together that’s a great thing. Providence a couple of seasons ago (I think it was 2 years ago when they had Pipkins) had a NIGHTMARE OOC schedule with like 3 or 4 bad losses and then in the middle of a Big East play just started wrecking teams. No tourney that year because of Covid (I think?) but they had played themselves back close to the bubble. If Johnnies can make it through bad/inconsistent play ooc without taking losses and hit their stride in early to mid conference play then this season will start to look and feel completely different in a good way. Cautiously optimistic here…emphasis on the cautiously.
