I've been a die hard St. John's fan for 20+ years. I don't frequent this site as much as I should, but I like to come on here and get the pulse of the fan base. It is without a doubt (like many others) I'm disappointed with the "progress" of this team. I understand we have the "youngest team" in the country. I understand we really don't have any upper classmen. I understand these guys are learning with each practice and each game. What I don't understand is how we can continue to make the "SAME" mistakes every time out. I know these observations has been discussed ad nauseam on this site.

Watching that game yesterday I was wondering: a) is anyone on the staff even suggesting we go box in 1 after Arcidiacono hit his 5th three b) should we continue to press c) who did the scouting report d) its amazing we're still in the game & can possibly win the game having played this bad e) talk about a wake up call for Sampson & Obekpa

As great as Obekpa is at blocking shots - he's completely lost out there when it comes to switching and getting a body on someone. (I understand he's young and his upside is huge)

Has anyone on here gone to any practices? How much time do they spend on defensive rotations? Who does the scouting reports? I feel that we've been out coached quite a bit this year. We don't make in game adjustments as quickly as we should.

Lavin has without question brought energy and excitement back to the team and university. I understand our staff took a hit with Dunlap leaving - from what I hear he came up with great game plans & is an excellent x & o guy. My question is - who has stepped into that position to make sure we're just as prepared?

As far as Gift redshirting - does anyone know if he requested to be redshirted so he can get his Master's degree or was that strictly a coaching decision?

Sorry but the name Anonymous is a bit distracting. Its like Joe3 wants someone to actually answer his questions.

I'm not sure who is in charge of scouting but I know when Dunlap was here I was vey comfortable knowing we would be prepared and that work was done watching/studying the opposition. Doesn't mean the gameplan always worked, but the effort was put into creating one.

Any thoughts on not calling a TO down 2 with ball--- 25 seconds left in regulation? Had 2 TO's left.

Couldnt believe we waited to get a shot off. Luckily Deangelo wouldnt take no for an answer and forced a way to get fouled.

we've gone through this before.

we have highly skilled players...but many have LOW basketball IQ's. you can't coach 70 IQ's into mensas.

the players are out of shape. their wadds were shot as soon as overtime started. dunlap would run the team in practice until it puked bile. i've never seen a softer team at st john's...ever. it's not the x's and o's we miss from dunlap. murray state...unc asheville...baylor...all losses clutched from the jaws of victory. you can talk about all the four and one zones and matchups you want. if the players were in shape, we'd probably be undefeated

I'm all for ripping the players now but out of shape? Where and how did you see that? And please dont say from the mouth of Hempstead Turnpike Tim.

Not in shape, lol.

I've heard it all now.

blowing big leads in the halves...two to mid majors...shut down in overtime to a team that lost to columbia by 18..

yes, THAT columbia.

right..these guys are in tip top condition. my bad!

Aside from the recurring themes - lack of rebounding and allowing one kid to shoot unimpeded - my biggest problem was not having the ball in Branch's hands down the stretch. There are a number of posters who are killing this kid already - but IMO he absolutely has PG instincts and gets to the hoop better than anyone on the team...uses both hands...

Yes, he is a risk taker and hopefully, with time and experience, he will settle in. But, having him on the bench and then off the ball lost us the game last night.

It is your bad.

I guess execution means nothing in your view of basketball. All comes down to being 'in shape.' Would love to see how many people share this view of basketball.

Being in shape has nothing to do with it.
Even the best athletes are tired after 30+ minutes, because we press the full court ALL GAME, and run the ball up court as fast as possible offensively.
That's not the same as 30 minutes in Georgetowns offense/defense.

Coach played Dangelo Phil Amir and Dom until they burnt out in the second half. 5-10mins into the 2nd half he should have given Felix and Marco a short run. Maybe even Jones.

Maybe Jones? Why? Amir and Pointer did not need any muscle help.
Forget Jones! He appears to have been written off the script faster than Charlie Sheen on Two and Half Men........which sums up our offensive and defensive potential thus far.....Two and Half Men. LOL!

Don't know how it would have worked out but Jones seemed like a logical answer when Villanova went to their low post strategy...would have liked to see him bang with Pinkston

Jones is soft. He wasn't going to bang with pinkston

Maybe...Maybe not...but he is the only one capable of muscling up...I think he has a lot of potential...

Garrett played the whole second half, let Jones give him a breather for 2 mins at some point.

Even in moments I stay out of controversy you create some to pull me in? Someone misses me I suppose.

Exactly. After scoring a few baskets he was benched and not put back until someone fouled out. Couldn't understand Welsh mentioned that Lavin had intentions to play him 20 minutes last night. Disappointed with Lavin's lack of bench coaching.
