Coach Kaiser's Wife Connie

Passed away today.

A very, very nice lady.

She will be missed

R.I.P.

From what I understand she faithfully and lovingly cared for Jack during his prolonged illness. She was only diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer recently. As the saying goes, behind every great man, is a great woman. Our university mourns.

To those who are unaware Connie Maffei ( spelling ) was Coach Lou's long time secretary and that is where her and Coach Kaiser met. She was a wonderful , polite , refined and classy lady who was a great asset to SJU and was a second mother to many a player. May she rest in peace , truly a great soul.

I will never forget the first time I met Mrs. Kaiser. I was sitting behind Coach Kaiser and Mrs. Kaiser
at a game in the Garden a bunch of years ago chanting "Let's Go Redmen!" sometime after the team's name had changed.
They both turned around and looked at me and I apologized for being too loud. They said that I wasn't too loud. They said they were just happy to hear someone still using the name Redmen!
Very nice lady. Coach Kaiser is all class.

This is not to diminish the loss but I believe this was Jack's third wife. Depending on how many years ago, it could have been #1 or 2. To my knowledge, each of them passed away, but others here would know better. Losing a wife is hard enough. Three is horrible.

You are correct. Connie was a wonderful sweet lady who would always ask me about my wife if she wasn't with me. While it is not her real first name, my wife is called Connie also.

Rest in Peace and my prayers are with the Family.

I believe you are right about his third wife. Remember talking to Lou who remarked how Jack had outlived his wives and just married his secretary. She was as nice as Jack himself.

I used to photograph players circa 1990-2000 and Connie was always gracious with setting me up, for a practice, getting coach's blessing...very spiritual and loving soul. She knew and loved all the players from team to team. I saw her at Alumni Hall this very year maybe it was the Long Beach State game.

God bless you Connie and we know somewhere your charming spirit lives on.

Many of us are concerned about Jack now that his primary care giver, pal, secretary, and housekeeper is in heaven, He's really not all back together from his recent illness. Now is when he needs that great circle of friends he has. RIP

The arrangements:

The wake will be Tues. 2-5 and 7-9 at Frederick Funeral Home- 192-15 Northern Blvd. Flushing, and the funeral mass on Wed at 10:30 at St. Ann's in Flushing, 146th Street and 58th Ave. Please share this with anyone who would wish to know.

Connie was in deed a very nice person. Coach Kaiser will need all the support we can give him. I will be paying my respects tonight (driving from Rockland County) any body needing a lift call me (845 398 0195).
