Closing Out Games Article

So one of the prevailing themes here is we can’t close out games becuse we play our starters too much and are tired at the end of games. I disagree, and in reality, no one really knows but the players. However, Ponds is tied for 7th in the league in minutes per game, Simon is 12th, Heron 15th, Figueroa 16th, and Clark 23rd. Yes, our 5 starters play the majority of the game but none of them individually play an inordinate amount of minutes. Markus Howard played 43 minutes Wednesday night and yet owned the OT. Booth averages slightly (very) more minutes than Ponds and certainly did not play wth tired legs down the stretch the other night.
IMO, we lack that heady, time and score, game situation dictates the tempo, on the court leadership type player. Ponds and Simon, our primary ball handlers, are neither just not that type of player. Possibly playing Figueroa some as a point forward may be a possibility, he certainly seems to understand the game and plays with tremendous poise and control. The last 5 minutes are different than the first 35 and we just haven’t figured out the last five yet. Here’s hoping they collectively, coaches and players, do sooner rather than later.

I can't kill Oregon for that. They fouled intentionally up 3, with 2.7 seconds.
I'm for doing that 100% of the time. If something strange happens, and the other team goes on to win after that, more power to them. Significantly more often then not, it works.
