Is the 1115 average score on the 1600 scale? If it is, that means they are raising the standards.

16 years ago, St. John's accepted me with a 1000 SAT score (of course, being a double legacy probably helped with that). Ultimately, I chose to pursue my education elsewhere, but it's just interesting to compare and contrast.

When I graduated high school, St John's offered anyone with a GPA of 90+ a very healthy academic scholarship. For students with averages between 85-90, they were invited to take a competitive exam for a half tuition scholarship. I had friends who were admitted to St John's with averages of less than 80% and SAT's in the 800-900 range in the mid to late 1960's

I had friends who couldn't get into Queensborough CC that were accepted by St John's
Glad to see that the standards are being raised
Thank goodness they were not that high when I entered college :)

I was one of those applicants in 1968 who had possibly a 80 average and SAT scores of 875 sad to say. But I am happy to say that I graduated CBA in 4 years after graduating the School of General Studies and went on to have a very successful career as a business owner in the financial services business! A lofty school average and high SAT scores do not always add up to ones success in college as well as in the business world. If you don't believe me just ask Mike Repole!

One of the most , if not the most , encouraging posts I have read about the school in a long time. Wonderful to see the direction the new president is taking the school. Thank you very much JSJ.

Sounds like a great event. Timing didn't work out for me to visit from NC and stay w/family.

Sometime in the mid 90's, the College Board who runs the SAT's, re-entered the scoring system so that 1000 was the mean score again like it was when first created. Over the years, the national avg had dropped sub 1K as more people were taking the tests with less academic skills as colleges widened to less affluent or educated.. Not sure of the exact effects of the re-centering but as example an 1115 today may be like a 1015 twenty years
ago.

Jsj,
Is this the SAT score of accepted students or of those who have paid deposits and will be attending sju?
