Chris Mullin - St. John's Can Return to Glory Days

“You have to find those kids that want to stay home and be part of something,” Mullin said. “Maybe it’s me and because I am from there, but I went through it and there is nothing better than being successful in New York. Coach (Lou) Carnesecca built his teams with New Yorkers.”

“I still believe it is there in New York kids."

“Whether a kid preps out of town or not, the key is the kid with New York roots, the ones that see it would be special to win in New York need to recognize St. John’s is the a place to do it.”

Watching Kia Wright, who was accompanied to her HOF induction and game by a large local contingent of family and friends, and Malik Sealy's family present at yesterday's game, Mullin is so right about New York kids wanting not only to stay home and play here, but for a lifetime being celebrated by alumni, fans, friends and neighbors who treat them with incredible warmth and caring that goes way beyond accomplishments on the court.

If the stars align properly, there will be a permanent place for Mullin on our campus

Sacramento Kings were a sponsor to the HOF induction. I believe Mullin can have a home their also.
Good to see Frank Alagia and Looie and Ron all there. Interestingly Frank mentioned he wasn't leaned on in the Briscoe recruiting and he may have helped influence in the decision process, one can only wonder.
\\Agree with Mullin's assesment regarding NY'ers however Briscoe turned on his initial lean and it may have been a mistake, a big mistake.

One thing for certain is Frank thinks an awful lot of himself. There is zero chance that any potential recruit knows who he is. But I would agree that prominent former players be used in recruiting.

That was the Naismith award, and it was 40 years ago, before many of our recruits parents were born. But for that matter, can you name even one other winner without trying to think of a calvin murphy and guessing? Any printing of Alagia's name always would reference that, but i don't even believe they have the award any more.

"One thing for certain is Frank thinks an awful lot of himself."

He Coached St Agnes CYO a few years ago and my sons team played them and won. A few days later I introduced myself to him in Red white club and told him my son just played against him a few days earlier and I thought it was a great game. Needless to say he thought his team should have won and that they would beat us next time. Guess what? They did, not once but the next six times.

He still goes around saying we should have beaten Indiana in 1976, save fro one bad matchup. I don't know if you appreciated his response to you, but a more gracious loser would have said, "You're team played great. We'll get you next time."

I believe Ewing won the Naismith award the year Mullen won the Wooden award.

the Naismith award that I'm referring to is for players 6'0 and under. Maybe you are referring to J.R. Ewing.

Was never a big fan of FA but he is right we should have beaten Indiana. Late in game John Farmer stole the ball and was ahead of the field for a lay up and the refs blew the whistle and called a foul. We could have taken the lead but as is our history we fell apart in the closing minutes and lost 76-69. Game was much closer than final score indicated in front of a SRO crowd at the Garden and they say they had to turn 10,000 people away. I knew plenty of class mates that went and couldn't get in. It was championship game of ECAC Holiday Festival back when it truly was one.

It was certainly our best showing in a loss in our history, and the Garden was never louder.
