Charleston Classic

Anyone know the closest hotel to the classic? How far is the airport from the games?

There are several hotels close to the arena. Just "Google" the arena address and hotels closest to it. I'm not sure how far the airport is from the arena. I know a few folks who are flying in to nearby cities and driving to Charleston. Check the flight prices of cities near Charleston.

The host hotel of the tournament is the Francis Marion Hotel located right next to the campus.

The airport I thought was about 15-20 minutes from the campus.

I was just in Charleston last week for the first time. It was very high on my list of cities to visit for the first time - actually at the top. It did not disappoint - it is a beautiful city - enough to have me consider returning for the tournament despite being in California the entire week up to Thursday.

One warning - Charleston hotels in the city are very expensive as small cities go. Tourism is extremely high, and being within the city has distinct advantages as opposed to staying just outside in Mt Pleasant, near the Ashley River or other surrounding areas. Airport is about 15 minutes by car. Flights form NYC direct are running $350-450 depending on flight times.

What days are we playing? Are the times all set or determined by wins and losses?

Kiawah is close by but over 300 for a round

I live outside hilton head now about 90 miles away. Charleston is midway between hilton head and myrtle beach. It may be cheaper to fly there and rent a car. If you go to either HHI or MB you will find plenty of nice courses for 35 a round including the cart.

Hilton head is a more expensive airport to fly to in general, and there aren't direct flight form NYC. It's also approxiamtely a 2.5 hour drive to Charleston, not conducive for a weekend trip. I flew into Chralestona c ouple of weeks ago for a conference in HHI, mostly for the cheaper fare and a chance to see a little of Charleston.

Looking at the schedule for this tournament, it is horrible for anyone who is working. We play Thursday night at 5, and the champiosnhip is Sunday at 8 pm. The only game I could definitely make would be on Friday, so I am going to pass on this trip.

I dont think the school even marketed this tournament in any significant way. I was going to go down there and but had to cancel for business reasons. There is a ticket package available where you can just purchase tickets for when your team plays and it isnt expensive. But astonishinly the school did absolutely nothing to promote this tournament. Typical st johns media work.

Re golf, my buddies and I used to launch our seasons at Wild Dunes (before we started on the RTJ Golf Trail) about 15 miles up the coast from the city. Just checked, Ocean Front two bedroom condos available for $221. Two very good golf courses that used to be in the Top 100 You Can Play in Golf Digest. Greens fees much more affordable (though the Ocean Course is obviously an otherworldly golf experience).

Live in Atlanta so I'll be there at the Friday & Sunday games looking forward to it. Staying by the airport as I used points for the hotel. Look forward to seeing the season get underway.

I will also be there bought a package deal from a travel agency.
We should set a site to all meet and have a drink.

I'm new to this board but have been a die hard fan since my Grandfather took me to my 1st game when i was 8 during the Felipe Lopez and Zendon years....A buddy and I are traveling down to Charleston. Would be awesome to meetup with some fellow Johnny fans! We'll be down from Thursday-Sunday. This could be a great start for us...excited to see the newcomers!
