CBS Sports article disses Big East basketball ....

Screw him. IMO Big East will still challenge for top 3 conferences, without a doubt. Georgetown, Louisville, SJU, Memphis, Marquette, temple, Uconn amongst others are going to be excellent, and their recruiting should all improve with their new conference affiliation. They'll all write us off until we prove it, and we will.

He clearly didn't watch last year. Rutgers and USF showed they had real talent, Cincy was a sweet 16 team, Seton Hall was ranked and one of the best teams in the first half, UConn was good, G'Town was ranked, Louisville is elite, etc. Providence just got 2 big time recruits, we are ready to make a run in the top 7 or 8 whether it's this year or next year, Memphis is ranked 16 in the preseason polls, Temple is a solid program, etc. Even if it turns out that the ACC is easily the best basketball conference (not a lock), the Big East isn't far behind and is definitely the 2nd best conference. We keep the tradition on our side with Nova, SJ, SH, Prov, Cincy, G'Town, etc. sticking together and we have MSG for the tournament for another decade.

Teams that will definitely be ranked: G'Town, Louisville, Memphis, Cincy, etc. and that doesn't count the teams who might be like SJ, Temple, UConn, USF, etc.

IMO the teams like Cuse, Pitt, ND, etc. leaving gives us an easier path to the top of the Big East. Once they leave, it suddenly becomes very possible to win the Big East tourney. It's like the Patriots leaving the AFC East...that would be great for the Jets because they can win their division much easier. Same for SJ. Who cares about having the #1 conference? If the ACC does have it, it won't be by much...what will they have, 2 or 3 more ranked teams? Who cares? Memphis makes losing Pitt like nothing. The only REAL major loss was Cuse. But hey, let them move down south and shoot themselves in the foot...they lose the NYC hype IMO ripping their rivalries apart.

The Big East win soon have the hardest conference again. Lets be real with Cuse and Pitt for a while there we were just putting up Loses. However, when they leave as the weak half of the Big East gets stronger. The Big East will be cut-throat no holds bar. You will need to fight your way though the conference not having an W, these not too many out there now. But come next year the ACC will be top heavy. 4 or 5 great programs on top and a few good programs that will not be able to make the NCAA tournament and the rest...well you get the picture.

The below linked article by CBS Sports' writer Jeff Goodman discounts the Big East Conferences and St. John's University.

Mr. Goodman better hope Mr. Aresco never cross paths again. Same goes for him and Jim Calhoun!
The bottom line is the Big East has DOMINATED college basketball for 25 years now and was the most envied conference in America. The only was for the ACC to catch up was to poach from them. Football is one scandal and one paralyzed player away from becoming a sports pariah with parents. Long live soccer!! :)

ND is a football school, Pitt is a football school, WV is a football school, Cuse is a great basketball school. We might as well get rid of the football crazed schools so we can concentrate on what we are best at: basketball. So many analysts are saying "The Big East will not be the best conference anymore". OK? So what if the ACC really is better? Who cares? It would only be slightly better than the Big East by a few teams. Plus, no one seems to realize that the bottom half of the Big East is getting stronger. Top to bottom, the Big East will no doubt be the best. The ACC really only has 3 sure things: Cuse, UNC, Duke. Irish basketball will decline when Cooley leaves. Virginia Tech, Virginia, Georgia Tech, Boston College, etc. don't scare me sorry. I'd rather have Seton Hall, Providence, SJ, USF, Rutgers, Nova, etc. as my next tier teams. The only team in the Big East that gets steamrolled consistently is DePaul. Everyone else has been competitive on and off. Same can't be said for ACC.

Who cares what he thinks. This is the same guy who didn't even consider D'Angelo as one of the best 100 players i the country

It's amazing what a big deal the media is making this whole thing. Worst case scenario, the Big East is the OBVIOUS #2 hoops conference in the nation. There will still be plenty of ranked teams and the tourney at MSG will still be fun. I really think Cuse made a stupid decision and will regret their move eventually.

Well I dont want to be in the "Avis" conference. It is true the BE has changed and can never be the same but at the same time, if these teams now in the BE stick it out, it will be very powerful and from year to year as team rosters change it can be the #1 BB conference

It can easily still be the best conference, especially if we get Xavier somewhere down the line. Think about it this way: when the Big East was still intact a few years ago as the undisputed #1 bball conference, did we say the ACC was god awful? No. We just said we were better but we knew the ACC had some good teams still. That's how the Big East will be looked at if in fact it becomes the #2 conference. The media is making it seem like the Big East went from #1 to the America East overnight. Worst case scenario after all we've been through, #2 in the nation isn't too bad a deal. Plus keeping MSG sticks it to the ACC schools. As long as the Big East is NYC centered, our stage will always be bigger even if the ACC has a few better teams. All we need are a few more teams to step up and get ranked like SJ, Temple, Cincy, Nova, etc. and it shouldn't be too hard because those are all good teams.
