Thanks for posting this. I was about to ask the same question.

So we have a Louie statue -- which is 100% justified; we all love the man, and the statue looks great -- but meanwhile a (rumored to be) statue of the great Joe Lapchick -- long, long overdue and more than 100% justfied -- is, if I understand correctly, sitting in some unknown on-campus basement? What the hell is going on? Is it just me, or is an explanation from the administration in order?

Perhaps instead of full length statue we should only have the bust of long terms coaches who have achieved great things since the university will go on for many many years to come. They will take up less space

The hashtag on that tweet was for a conference of ADs that took place in Orlando.

So it's clear the Louie statue is either in Neverland or the World of Tomorrow.

A number of us posters contributed to the funding of the lapchick statue a few years ago . we were led to believe that an area outside Carnesecca arena was being dedicated for the placement of the statue . This has never happened . Is there someone in the athletic dept that is standing in the way of putting up the statue . I know Jersey Shore johnny played a major role in getting the funding started .

You are correct Matt, JerseyShoreJohnny singlehandedly is the reason why the statue exists at all, he spearheaded the project. As one of the posters who contributed to this, I recently had discussions with members of the athletic department about the statue, & why it's still not displayed on campus. I was told that it is going to happen, but when you realize how long it's been since the fundraising dinner, and now seeing a statue of Louie (which as far as I'm concerned should be on one side of Carnesecca Arena, next to the one of Lapchick), I'm not so sure. I want to give the new leadership at the athletic department the benefit of the doubt, but if they can't figure something as simple as this out, then maybe we are in for more business as usual. Lets hope not.

Isn't there also a third statue of Jack Kaiser? Believe the original plan was one of Joe Lapchick only but another sculptor offered to do 3 for the same price as the original person they hired was charging for one. Also as I've stated before from what I have heard it is not the athletic department's fault, they have been hindered by the administration as to the location of the statue(s).

maybe we are going to build a new arena then find a permanent location for the statues in the plaza? i'll give it 20 years. :)

My understanding is that the issue with the Lapchick statue is where to place it. For some reason, Bobby G. does not want it display in a prominent location outside of or within CA's lobby. What I heard was that he'd like it placed near Taffner, which is crazy considering that most fans who attend games have never been at Taffner. There may be an issue with blocking the roadway if the statue isn't placed on the sidewalk outside of CA or blocking entrance and exit if placed too close.

I really think an SJU sports HOF would be a great thing to have contiguous to CA, and could be a home for these statue(s) and other exhibits.

I wonder where that statues is. Maybe NCAA basketball HOF? Maybe its a status of Joe Paterno that SJU picked up cheap
