Cardinals

Watching the World Series and while realizing that this train has long ago left the station, it would have been much better, IMO, to rename the school's teams CARDINALS instead of RED STORM.

It would have played into the schools main color (red) and it arguably has a religious tie in (cardinals) so to speak.

The decision would have been made before Louisville joined the Big East so the conference would not have had (at the time) 2 schools with the same nick name.

What is it about Stanford and not using the plural, is it an Ivy thing?

Indian/Cardinal?

Any other school go by the singular and why?

Schools that go by a color only don't count.

Come to think of it how about the St. John's RED? BIG RED? Other variations of RED?

Is it the Cornell RED?

Aw, the Red Storm is here to stay, it's not horrible.

That is actually my vote. Then we could put "Red Men" on T-shirts and other merchandise and not get grief for it.

Let's not forget that the PC Police put an end to using the word MEN .

It was only "last week" that Syracuse was forced to change its name to Orange from OrangeMEN.

Is Redstorm the worst name ? Probably not. Is it among the best? Far from it.

Latest victim of political correctness run amuck is the University of North Dakota who is being forced to drop their Fighting Sioux name and mascot.

At the end of the day, we are stuck with the name Redstorm, for better or worse. Only wish that a bit more consideration was entertained at the time of the change.

Were were the runner up names to Red Storm?
