The worst part is that it is all gauranteed with no performance incentives. If this was a public company the board would be under serious fire for this contract.

And if the NBA develops the D league further and the some of the top 20 guys skip school to play in the "minors" for a year or 2, Calipari will come back to the pack in terms of attracting talent.

It is a public school. So his salaray comes out of the taxpayer's pockets.
BTW-So does Nick Saban who makes close to $10 million with incentives at Bama. And the President of Alabama makes no apologies. Calls it the best investment the school and the taxpayers of Bama could make at least with regards to intercolleigate athletics.

He has earned the right to the guaranteed money. His recruiting is out of this world and he wins everywhere he goes. The salary figure is just absurd, though. It wil have a big residual effect on the college game.

No executive anywhere ever should have a 100% gauranteed contract

I hate Cal, but he's worth every penny. If he bailed for the pros, there aren't many people who could have kept Kentucky at the level he's gotten them at with regard to recruiting.

Nobody in the country could come close to what Cal has done at Kentucky. His recruiting is out of this world. He has been there long enough now that he's starting to get some highly ranked recruits to return as juniors...the top 25 PG he just added could be a four year player. Whenever he has veterans alongside his fantastic freshman, his teams are nearly unbeatable.
The best part for UK, is that he doesn't have to do a single thing crooked. He gets kids to the NBA and they do well when they get there. Boeheim can't make the same claim. Nobody can match him on that level and kids will continue to flock to him. I'm glad UK is my #2 school now. I am going to embrace that more to balance out the misery of being a Mets, St. John's, Knicks, and Giants fan.

"Doesn't have to do a single thing crooked", LOL, that's rich.

At this pont in his career--going back 5 year even--the guy doesn't have to cheat at all. He can be straight as an arrow, becuase the kids will play for him. Nobody has a better track record the last decade with getting kids to the pros.
