I watched a game I dvr'd of Butler and looked over its roster for the first time. I came away incredibly impressed. I had no idea they returned so much experience. The balance in scholarships is also incredible...they are truly the definition of a program. They just reload. They return four guys that played over 17 mpg for them last year (not including Jones), another that played 11, and several others that saw the court between 3-7 mpg. Three guys (not including Jones) played between 16-21 mpg for the Final Four team two years ago.

Brad Stevens was amazing and a huge loss, but I think they really knocked it out of the park with hiring Brandon Miller. I really didn't know how tied in he was to the program. The announcers said he played at legendary New Castle Chrysler High in Indiana for Sam Alford and that Steve Alford babysat for him. I also didn't put two and two together that he was the same Brandon Miller that led Butler to the tournament as a player in 2003. He looks way older to me.

I think Dunham and Marshall are both all-conference players at year's end. Dunham particularly is really impressive. I can't see him lower than 2nd Team All- Big East. He'll be an All-American before he's done. If Roosevelt Jones wasn't injured, I'd say they would be a near lock to win the league this year. They also had their best recruiting class possibly ever this year--four three star players (two in the top 150 by Rivals). The 6'4 freshman Elijah Brown looked really good. He'll be a player for sure.

When Jones comes back next season, Butler will be a top 20 team. The talented freshman and sophs will ensure they remain a very quality program for years to come. Definitely a good add to the conference.

It wasn't an accident that they played in two NCAA championship games. You just don't fall that fast.

Helluva game between Nova and Butler. Nova wins in OT by 3.

I really think Butler will be my preseason pick to win the conference next season when they get Roosevelt Jones back. Nova will be right up there, but losing Bell is going to really sting. He had a down game, but he is shaping up to be a late second round pick. Chennault will be gone as well.

As I posted above, Elijah Brown looks awesome for a freshman. Very impressive and he had his best game today.
Brown-Dunham-Jones will be a dynamite trio next season.

Creighton's:
zero* recruit Devin Brooks,
2** recruit Will Artino, and
3*** recruit Doug McDermott
illustrate that high school rankings are not determinative of how talented a college player will be.

Let's be real. If we recruited a bunch of 2 and 1 star players you and the vast majority of this board would revolt.

Hey Moose..... please explain to me how there is more "talent" on StJohn's than on Butler, Creighton and Villanova.

Thanks.

Why do I have to explain that to you?

Thanks

I'd take higher recruits all day long, but I'm tired of all of these "potential" guys. Elijah Brown is a good not elite athlete, but he can handle the ball with both hands, pass, shoot, play sound defense. and make good decisions. Butler gets these types of kids to come in and accept small roles for the first year or two with the history to prove they will get a chance to play big minutes as upperclassmen on a big stage. They have also played a bigger bench than just about any team in the country to get guys experience so they don't come in completely cold. Guys like Nick Williams of Arizona are examples of highly ranked recruits with skill.

FTR, I'd trade Dom for Elijah Brown in a heartbeat. I'd also trade him (and throw in Sanchez and Branch) for Dunham.
