Understand former Redmen star Glen Williams was being honored last evening. Hear that his health is not good. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Glen's former teammate, and 2012 inductee, George Johnson accepted the award on Glen's behalf and mentioned that that portion of the dinner was being recorded so Glen would be able to see it. His remarks spoke to Glen's competitiveness and unselfishness as a teammate and highlighted the unique basketball journey that took Glen from his home in the Virgin Islands to Laurinburg (NC) Prep to New York and St. John's. Please keep Glen in your thoughts and prayers. Those of you who've had a chance to meet him know what a good guy he is and how much he loved St. John's

Glenn Williams is one of my favorite all time Johnnies. Will always remember a home game he played in at Alumni Hall where he was suffering from terrible leg cramps where you could actually see his leg muscles seizing up and he was limping around with a pained expression on his face but he refused to come out of the game and continued on and still scoring. Best wishes to Glen and we all hope and pray for a full recovery.

George gave a very heartfelt speech in place of Glen.

Had the opportunity to speak to George. He is one of the most underappreciated stars we have had during my time following the team.

We spoke about the team that had Indiana on the ropes. He believes that they were one piece away from being a legit title contender. He told me a funny story about how his 1st roommate was Kent Benson (who he ate up at MSG). Kent told him he was afraid of him because he was so quick that he couldn't keep up with him.

George should have been up on the wall at CA a long, long time ago - before some of the other deserving Johnnies who are already up there.

Not underappreciated by me as he is in my top 5 all time fav Johnnies. Still our leading rebounder all time and if he played for this years team even at his age would have been our leading rebounder. :)

Sorry to hear that Glen is not doing well. I met him a few years ago when he was working with some local kids in Queens. He treated me well when I told him I was an SJU alum and we had some conversations about SJU and how proud he was to be part of the Redmen. After that every time he saw me he would talk to me about the team. Pray he gets better.
