Bronx Pale Ale And All Things Maher

Homeland and All Things Maher sometimes devolves into beer discussions because of Mike's love of Bronx Pale Ale, but I thought there was enough interest in adult libations to start a separate thread. (Mods delete if not).

First up, last March when we played and beat Omaha, I was in Providence for that win (and unfortunately for the Arkansas "L"), AND got to spend fun times with Mike, NC Johnnie, Dave (SJU 85), LMF, Weatherman, and a bunch of other great guys, many from this site, at Union Station Brewery (beers so-so) after the games.

While there I visited a really good slightly off-the-beaten-path brewery called Long Live Beerworks. Their specialty was IPAs, of the hazy variety, (think Other Half, etc.) and they did an excellent job with the style. I also tried a pilsner which was very good too.

In case anyone finds themselves in Providence RI, it is worth the trip to Long Live Beerworks.

Bonus: a little outside of Providence, in a town called Exeter, is another really good brewery, it is a farm and family run brewery also tilted towards IPAs with other beers mixed in, called Tilted Barn.

I approve of this thread…(even though no one asked).

And…my kid has a volleyball tournament in Providence next spring. I was bummed about no Boston (went to Tree House on way and Notch while we were there last year), I will keep LLB in mind, I didn’t know it was there. I’m familiar with Tilted Barn’s game.

G77, thanks for the stamp of approval!

Tree House, in the top 5 or so, in the entire country for Craft beer IMHO.

For Jerseyeans, ranking the top three breweries in the State,

# 1 Kane Ocean NJ, top due to their very good IPAs, but more so their Stouts, Barrel-aged A Night to End All Dawns, one of the best in the country, better than Bourbon County by Goose Island.

Number 2, The Seed: A Living Beer Project Atlantic City (not downtown) husband and wife owners, farm to table brewery, very small, eclectic styles, Saisons, Farmhouse, IPAs, Stouts, brown ales, all over the beer just all are so different and good.

# 3 Troon, best IPAs in the State, but extremely limited, no tasting room, and order ahead, but almost always sell out in a half an hour or less.

## Bonus: In NYS, try Marlowe in Mamaroneck - fantastic, like Seed, a husband-and-wife team, featuring fresh ingredients, lots of styles, and a strong focus on IPAs. The food is good too.

Damn, you really know your beer, so cheers to that! Love Kane, they are versatile as hell. I often compare Overhead to Heady. OG old school DIPA which is my speed at this point in my drinking life. They do a good job with the lagers and stouts too.

The two breweries I would add…one would definitely be Carton. I give Augie Carton a lot of credit for trying a lot of outside the box varieties. I love that GORP beer that’s supposed to be like trail mix in a glass. One of my favorite beers by any brewery though is definitely Regular Coffee and all its variants. I’ve had a friend of mine in Holmdel send me boxes 3 years in a row of the variants and sometimes I can find the Regular on LI. O’Dub and Boat are classics too. Love, love, love Epitome. Best black IPA I’ve ever drank.

Second would be Tonewood. While I love The Seed, and prefer it, I find Tonewood more approachable and more affordable. And, honestly, not far behind in quality. When you can get a quality 6-pack in the $10-13 range, in this day-and-age, that’s amazing. Cape May is solid too. Coastal Evac is a great, cheap DIPA and Long Liner is a quality pilsner. If you like IPAs, Twin Elephant is quality and stopped into Conclave and Oakflower last Spring and enjoyed both although I liked Conclave a little more.

Lastly, you guys can get Schilling way, way more easily than I can get it in NY and dollars to doughnuts, right there with Notch and Suarez, I think better, Schilling makes the best lagers in the whole Northeast.

Thanks for that. Been boycotting Schilling and his bloody sock for years. Oops, wrong Schilling. ;)
