Boeheim on Mullin

Speaking with Francessa on the FAN said Mullin was the best player offensively he ever coached against and Ewing was defensively. Pretty high praise from a coach who has seen and played against them all.

Strange.... he must've selectively forgotten that he coached against Walter Berry.

Berry was an exceptional talent, but fairly one dimensional as an unstoppable left handed player. Mullin could shoot the eyes out, was exceptional going to the hoop considering his lack of speed or jumping ability, was among the best passers ever at off guard, and had an artist's mastery of the game. Nothing to denigrate Berry, who was the missing piece to a Final Four run, but they are two very different players. To that point, Berry washed out as a pro, and Mullin had a HOF career.

Boeheim has pretty much said this about Mullin since the 80s.

You could add to this thread that Coach K of Duke still calls Mullin the player who got away that he regretted the most.

Love Walter and my screen name the truth was in homage to "The Truth," but he was not the all around offensive player that Chris was. This is no knock, considering Chris is a HOFer and original Dream Team member that averaged 18.2 ppg during a 13-year NBA career.
