Bobblehead question

I am posting this on behalf of my good friend Mike (a loyal Alum and a season ticket holder for more than fifty years) who reads this site occasionally but does not post here.

At the arena on Saturday night, while we were watching SJU play Creighton, he suggested to me that the University should be creating and distributing Bobbleheads of our current players instead of our former players. He said, this would have a twofold benefit:

1) It would make more sense to have bobbleheads that are relatable for our students and younger fanbase. This would create more younger fan enthusiasm for giveaways like this and could even be a fun thing for the players who have bobbleheads created in their image.

2) Importantly you might be able to generate NIL revenue for our current players by using their images for these bobbleheads.

I have no idea if this is even possible to do but it seems like a good idea to me.
If anyone knows how NIL actually works I would love to know if this is doable at all.

I’m sure the fans would cherish a Curbelo bobble head 😂

Fair point.

While Shaefer has great stats, only older fans in their 60's+ would have seen him play, and they are least likely to want bobbleheads.

I thought Coca Cola sponsored them (at least in part) as their names were on quite a few boxes in past.

No idea of cost, but assume $3 each @2,500 pc. That's $7,500 × 13 players = $97,500.

That's a lot of $.. and if they do that for men's team, they might need to do the same for women's team.

The institution itself cannot directly enter into a NIL agreement with a student-athlete or make deals on their behalf. The bobblehead idea may be good for sparking more interest among our youngest fans, but their would need to be a third party sponsor to pay the player. Your friend could be on to something, but payment would have to go directly from Coca-Cola (as an example) to the player for NIL. Not sure Coke sees SJU players as prime endorsement partners. In the end, because there are better places to put advertising dollars, you need someone with money/power who care about the program.
