Bo Ryan gets it

With a great recruiting philosophy supporting his sustained success(NCAA tourney all 14 years at Wisconsin), he's created a brand at Wisconsin. Hopefully our next coach can create something similar, if not better.

In other words exactly what Lawmanfan, Logen and Doc Butler have been repeating for years on this board.
Have a system , an identity , know who you are and then go out and recruit those players that fit your system.
Not that complicated in my opinion.

Lou understood that too. You don't need to be a great game coach or even be a great recruiter(by conventional standards) in order to have sustained success in this business.

True but he had like 5 DIII national championships in his pocket as well. In fact his DIII career and 20 year Wisconsin connection got him the job, not his two relatively mediocre years at Milwaukee.

Which of the following is not like the others...answer Doc Butler. He is too good to be in that group.

Who wouldn't want Bo Ryan or his system? We aren't Wisconsin, though. We don't have the academics to attract a lot of the kids he gets and we don't have the pipeline of Midwest players. Those types are rare in NY and find themselves at schools like BYU, Virginia, BC, Notre Dame or, if they want to stay local, Syracuse.

That's Sesame Street, right? Or, Electric Company?

Academically, I would not include the kids that Syracuse attracts with the kids that those other schools attract.

I saw a tweet from Zags that Bo Ryan wont' talk to anyone but a recruit's parents which I 100% agree with. How many other sports have the nonsense that basketball has? When my brother was recruited for lacrosse the coaches called the house and talk to him and our parents directly. I wouldn't want to deal with hanger-ons if I was a coach. If I was a parent I would never let someone benefit from my kid.
