Very proudly, for SJU and for Bishop Bob Brennan, he chose to make St. John's University Chapel the site for his first mass celebrated in the diocese. The mass was scheduled at 530 PM, Sunday, Dec. 5th, which gave Bishop Brennan time to catch the game at CA. vs. Fordham.
Bishop Brennan grew up in Lindenhurst, graduated St. John the Baptist High School, and also graduated St. John's University, attending from 1980-1984. He is totally a regular guy, and in his homily spoke of how absolutely thrilled to be back on campus as Bishop, as he considers St. John's a home to him.
Before becoming Bishop of Columbus of Ohio, Bob served on the St. John's board of the Institute for Catholic Schools, and was frequently on campus for meetings.
All SJU alums should be very proud that we have one of our own as the bishop of the fifth largest diocese in the United States, serving a population of 4.7 million that is 39% Catholic. It's really great that we now have a Bishop who not only is one of us and a local guy, but who absolutely loves St. John's.
