QUEENS, N.Y. (Feb. 14, 2023) – St. John’s Athletics Hall of Famer and former men’s basketball standout Bill Schaeffer will be honored on Saturday, Feb. 18 during the Red Storm’s contest with No. 18/19 Creighton in this year’s St. John’s Basketball Legends Series Bobblehead Giveaway. Fans in attendance at Carnesecca Arena for the Johnnies’ 7:30 p.m. showdown with the nationally-ranked Bluejays will receive the collectible courtesy of Coca-Cola.
Schaeffer, who currently serves as the Director of Development for the Peter J. Tobin College of Business, enjoyed a decorated playing career with the Johnnies, before earning his bachelor of science degree in accounting in 1973.
Schaeffer scored 1,484 points in 79 career appearances from 1970-73, a total that still ranks 15th on the St. John’s all-time scoring list. In addition, the former Johnnie star shot a career 56.0 percent from the field, which ranks fourth in program history, while grabbing 622 career rebounds, placing him 29th on that all-time list. Playing under head coach Frank Mulzoff, Schaeffer helped lead St. John’s to a 56-27 record in his three varsity seasons.
