Billy on with Francesa. Talking about the last time the regionals were played at MSG in 1963

SJU (Tony Jackson, Leroy Ellis, Ivan Kovacs) was up at the half, but Wake Forest blew them out in the second half, scoring 60 points and won by 20.

I recall being in the garden at halftime planning a trip for the next game somewhere down South. We were up 10 at the half I believe . It was 1961.

We were up by ten at the half, Kovacs was smothering Packer. Then the big man for Wake went off and we lost real big. Too bad, with Ellis, Jackson and Loughery, that must have been some St. John’s team.

I never knew Packer was tangentially connected to the second wave of point shaving scandals.

To think Lapchick that year picked the NCAA over the NIT for a change of pace??

I've known Ivan Kovac for a number of years since the Straw Hat bar and Pub Ivanhoe. Good guy and he used to talk how Alumni Hall was a pit and
the Johnnie's hardly lost there. Good guy who continued to play pick up games into his fifties, Down Florida now.
