Got an e-mail from SJU that 2/17 is Bill Wennington Bobblehead night against Depaull at CA... first 5K fans....

Surprised he's getting a Bobblehead at all...figured Mark Jackson if they did another former player..

I don't think I'll be too fast to pick one of these up on E-Bay to add to Mullin, Coach C or Sealy.... if anyone goes and wants to unload one and ship to NC for shipping cost... maybe

Maybe they wanted a former player who's friendly, funny, and not an all-around obnoxious jerk. . .
 
Great guy! Bill and I were in a few classes together. My favorite story: We were in a calculus class. The professor gave an exam, and it was impossible. Everyone in the class bombed. I walked up to Bill and asked him how poorly he performed, expecting to hear a low grade. He tells me that he received an 80! I was amazed, and asked him how he pulled it off. Turns out the team was on a road trip when portions of the subject were taught, so he was excused for 6 out of 10 problems!
Another fact: He would ride public transportation home to Long Island every day. I would give him a lift in my crappy Dodge Colt down to Hillside Avenue to catch the bus. It was an amazing sight seeing this 7 foot guy squeeze into that car. Even more amazing were the looks on faces on Hillside when he would get out.
Just a really down to earth guy. Although I hated the Bulls, I always pulled for him.

Nice story. Now you can put Bill's bobblehead in your car and you will probably get those same looks on people's faces when they see it and it will feel like old times. :)
 
Bill is also a loyal supporter of The Fr. Dorr Golf outing which raises money for scholarships.

A great person and fiercely loyal to alma mater.
 
Former player. Final Four ring. Well liked by everyone.

I spoke with Bill the night of the celebration 25th anniversary of the final four team at msg at a pregame dinner. Completely approachable guy and great conversationalist. Has akways kept up with sju bball.

He was much more coherent tgan i remember him on friday afternoons in the rat back when beer was still served..
 
Bill Wennington is a great ambassador for our school.

Makes us proud.

Wouldn't we like it if all of our former players had his class.

Three-time NBA champion and St. John's legend Bill Wennington will also be in attendance Wednesday. The first 5,000 fans to enter Carnesecca Arena will receive a commemorative Wennington bobblehead and St. John's will honor the 13-year NBA veteran during the game. Wennington is one of only nine players in program history to record 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 100 blocks during his career.
 
Bill is just an all-around great guy period. Great since of humor.

As far as the first 5,000 fans, how many do they expect to show up considering we are playin DePaul?
 
Bill Wennington remains a class act. After the game, he stuck around in his seated area signing autographs, taking pictures with fans and just talking and joking with them. It got to the point that when I was leaving, Security was trying to get everyone out so they could close the building and there still was a line.

I didn't remove mine from the box but I did see some that had been removed. I thought at a glance it looked pretty good. It looked liked like Bill while I thought the ones of Chris and Coach Carnesecca were "off".
 
Does anyone know how many SJU bobbleheads are out there? I have a Mullin, Lavin and Sealy. I know I'm missing a Carnesecca and now a Wennington but wasn't sure if there were any others....
