If that ever happened, we would be the first Big East champion 16 seed in the history of the NCAA tourney. In fact, guaranteed spot in the play in game!

I actually think if we pulled that off they'd give us a 15 seed regardless of the crappy regular season. Too risky to their tournament to put a non-low major in that game.

About 7 or 8 years ago, Georgia won the SEC tournament with an overall record of about 2 or 3 games under .500. The committee made them a 14 seed.

That's one frame of reference to back LJSA's point.

A little off topic but has anyone seen the documentary about Georgia winning that SEC tournament? Crazy stuff. The tournament started in the Georgia dome but a tornado put the stadium at risk, and they contemplated canceling the tournament and giving the auto bid to the top seed from the regular season. They ended up moving the games to Georgia Tech's campus and Georgia ended up winning the whole thing and going to the tournament.

And the ensuing investigation would rival that of the 1919 White Sox world series scandal. :)

Didn't they also win a double-header forced by the weather? It was a crazy run.

Yes. They had to win two games in one day, and then they had to play at like 3 on Sunday to finish before the selection show. They had so many players cramping up, a true freshmen who hadn't played all year hit a game winning three for them in one of the games too. It was a really crazy story, it's what March is all about
