I think we will finish higher than UConn.

Agreed, we should be above UConn in the preseason poll. As discussed elsewhere, i think we'll prove ourselves to be better than 3-4 others listed above us there, but that's why they play the games.

I believe that Marquette's Buzz Williams is among the best coaches in the Big East Conference.

I would move Marquette up one or two spots in the pre season rankings.

Agreed about Coach Williams, but what players will replace the production of DJO and Crowder? They have many questions about unproven players, and most of which were not ranked as high as many of ours. I don't see Marquette moving up the list.

Cincy at 4? Didn't they just lose Gates?

Yes, as well as their starter at SF whos name is escaping me right now. They have an excellent backcourt with Wright and Kilpatrick. They have quite a few question marks in the frontcourt, although they do have some talented young players there that potentially could step up.

Very hard to replace those two. Both were sooo dynamic both inside and outside.

I understand the ranking. I don't accept it. I think we will be better than this. We have been so accustomed to low expectations that some want to accept this or would be satisfied with 10th. I think Coach Lavin has the talent in place and we will be and should be shooting much higher. I think before this season is done a lot of people will be talking about St. John's.

I'm looking to finish in the top five. Please tell me we can't compete against the likes of Notre Dame, Marquette, Gtown,Cincinnati and USF. Forget about Uconn, they are not going to finish in the top ten. And you can take it to the bank.

Agree about UConn.

Kevin Ollie has little to work with and will be interested to see if he can keep his team interested in Feb. with no shot to go to the Big East and NCAA tournaments.

Longer term can the program still remain a national contender without JC?

Let's not kid ourselves, ND will be a tough out. They have all 5 starters back and Pitino voted them #1 in the Big East because he couldn't vote for his own team.

Yes, Marquette lost some key players but don't overlook Buzz.

Not saying we will lose to these teams but they will not be easy games either.

Then again, every game in the BE always seems to be an intense and closely contested battle.

I think we can compete with anyone (with the exception of a handful of programs like UK, IMO).

The question is: Can we close the deal in the last few minutes of a game.

If we can, we are going to be happy campers this season.

Lets be sure we sell out CA and The Garden to give our team a real home court advantage !!!!

I'm saying anywhere between 5-8. Nothing lower or higher.

Fwiw, we've beaten notre dame 3 of last 4 times. I think we do it again. We don't let their "burn" offense control tempo. We also don't let Cooley touch the ball too much. We have a lot more this year than we have in more than a decade. Cuse and Louisville are the class of the league. The rest are beatable.
