If UConn found a home for football, the Big East would seriously consider the Huskies for all other sports,... http://es.pn/29V26uE

I really hope we stay at 10 teams.....the round robin format is great for rivalries and once you go above 10 teams, it will disappear.....if uconn was added, i'm assuming they would look for a 12th team?....i wonder who they would consider....

As I understand it, as of last year the conference was very satisfied with its 10-team membership and wasn't looking to expand.

UCONN is looking at the Big12 and all those local Texas rivalries.

Could do a round robin schedule of 20 games if just one team was added. Personally I am more than satisfied with the group we currently have.

Three words: No, No and No!

Two words : Screw them.

Their greed brought this on. Lie in the bed they made.
The conference is just fine the way it is.
And for the 1000th time no need to help them further cherry pick the 5 boroughs and LI.

I've flip-flopped on this so much I'm not even sure what my original opinion was on this. But I think I initially would have said said yes to UConn and Memphis if they parked football in the MAAC.

But now that Memphis seems to have a better chance to hook up with a major conference than UConn does, I'm OK with UConn rotting. A few more years in that conference and its sports programs outside of women's basketball will die and never recover.

I'll take any combo of Dayton, St. Louis, Davidson, Wichita State, VCU, Valpo, or WCC teams that don't mind long road trips over UConn.

I must be getting soft in my old age, but I'd take another look at UConn. Hate 'em with all my heart, but if it makes the Big East better, we benefit in the long run.

The precedent is that Notre Dame was allowed in for basketball since their football is a franchise unto itself. The Big East is doing just fine without UCONN, and they are losing their NE identity. Even if admitted, they would bolt at the first better deal. A Big East enrollment would help their recruiting, as they can schedule all the non conf Big East games they want at present. Screw them.

Looking like the Big 12 will expand by 2-4 teams, which is why this is news. The B12 schools changed their minds this week after the ACC Network announcement.

I'd say let them in if they downgrade football.

I have my doubts on this.

1. Why would the BE consider this? They have been down this road before (Notre Dame) and while beneficial for awhile, it eventually lead to a split. I don't see the BE entertaining bringing in anyone that has an FBS football program even for all other sports.

2. What football conference is taking UConn for Football only and why?

And how beneficial was it really for the BE to bring in Notre Dame? It definitely helped ND basketball but what did it do for the Big East? Seemed like a completely one-sided deal to me. Unlike say Creighton or Butler that brought large BBall fan fases instantly,

When the BE brought in ND , we had plenty of powerfull BE BB programs. I was against bringing them in from the beginning wo FB. I guess the thinking was, if the BB schools broke away in the future , having ND would help them. Didn't work out too well.

Hey, if Yukon would agree to execute a "grant of rights" agreement for its basketball broadcast rights for the next 20 years then yeah I would admit Connecticut State University to the Big East.

That being said however the Yahoo;s at the UConn fan site "Boneyard" mock to Big East are eagerly awaiting for their schools invite to the Big 12, ACC, Big 10, or SEC. As an aside a person with the title Senior Associate Athletic Director at an ACC school confirmed to me that the "old boyz" in the ACC still carry a grudge against former Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal's ill conceived lawsuit against the ACC which caused the ACC.

UConn recently built new football facilities
They are not downgrading the football program
I don't want any part of them in the Big East ever again
We're dong just fine without them
Good riddance!!

We've seen what happens when we bring football schools into the Big East
We shouldn't go down that road ever again
The Big East was created with basketball as it's featured sport
I am not advocating expansion, but if we do, it should only be with schools that "fit" our profile
All of the schools that you mentioned above would be viable candidates
Schools with D-1 (FBS) football teams need not apply ever again!!

Feel as much antipathy as you do, redmannorth, but if UConn they were to join, say, the ACC (which I pray never happens), their cherry-picking NY/NJ recruits would likely be as strong, if not stronger, than it's ever been. That said, it might be in the BE's best interest to consider their inclusion (given their accomplishments over the past 15 years or so), provided there are severe financial penalties if they were to bail out at some point.

Screw UCONN, Syracuse and Pitt forever. They were the 3 schools that conspired behind the back of the old Big East to demolish the conference. I would have preferred never playing Syracuse ever again. I don't care if they signed a 40 year deal with Espn, none of these schools should ever be trusted ever again. May they suffer the insignificance of Boston College and Virginia Tech on their way to the bank.
