Big East Tournament

By an absolutely wild coincidence ;) , I'm going to be in NYC for the week of the BET. I just bought tickets for myself and a few friends and noticed when I was on Ticketmaster that the only seats available were in the 200's and a few in the end zone in the 100s.....I'm not sure if a lot of the tickets are blocked out but if all of the unavailable seats are truly spoken for, it appears that the tournament is selling well.....

Attendance trended down last season. This is another important post season indicator for the new BE

That's because Creighton stunk last year. Their fans basically invaded the place year 1, to UCONN and/or Syracuse levels. Last year, for obvious reasons, they stayed away.

Starting next season St. John's fans will have reason to invade the Garden en mass for the Big East Tournament.

Glass half full- we pretty much know where we are going to finish in the conference well before the tourney starts so it will be easy to make plans for getting off work or arranging schedule to attend the game we will play

True, but first year crowd was not great either. It won't look good if we can't sell out the tournament. It's not even close to a sell out. Outside of Creighton, the Midwest teams don't bring in fans. The eastern teams don't do a good job either.

A regular season Duke game out sells our tournament. That sucks

That lonely Wedsneday night.

Let's face it the BET spoiled many of us. In the very beginning seats were available. Then came the dominance of the mid 1980's Big East. Georgetown, SJU, Syracuse, Nova, even a Providence and a Seton Hall.

Then you had some great UConn teams added into the mix.

Above anything else, a bunch of teams came in that really brought fans and because those teams were very good. Louisville, Cincy, West Va, ND, Pittsburgh, etc.

2011 11 out of 16 teams made the Big Dance.

Having 16 teams meant after the Schools' allotment there were almost no tickets left over.

The BET was THE hottest ticket around for many years. With the newly restructured Catholic Big East there is no way to compare. If it manages to be mostly sold out that would be a good thing. There is no use trying to put Humpty Dumpty back together again. Boeheim believe me wishes the old Big East never broke up. Calhoun either if he was still there.

Well said. After the football induced defections, all the core remaining group could do is make the best of a bad situation. For me, this is an enjoyable, competitive league that will survive & hopefully prosper in such a challenging era.

I agree Paultz. That's why I would not want Syracuse and UCONN back in the league. The Big East has a really good group of schools committed to basketball. I would prefer that the league is very careful about who is allowed to join. They just have to continue to get good players to see that this is the best league for them to play in. Big state schools with huge budgets don't fit anymore. UCONN, Pitt and Syracuse made their beds by allowing what are lousy football programs at each school call the shots.

This league won't prosper without strong tv ratings and full arenas.

I'm not sure if the poor tv ratings improved from last season. This league received a nice boost from Fox three years ago. It would be encouraging to see strong ratings and a tournament that draws more than 15k

The league has a great history.
