Ponds Pre-season Freshman of the Year

Many thanks to Omari Spellman's grades for making this possible.

Not meant to badmouth Ponds by any means, but I think we all know that this would have gone to him, if eligible.

Providence at 9?? Are they going to have that big of a drop off this year?

I think so, yes. They lost two great players, and really didn't bring anyone in to replace them. Unless their bench guys from last year were super great, and were just being blocked by Dunn and Bentil, then I think they will have a rough year.

I also think it will be only that: a rough year. Expect them back near the top of the BE sooner, rather then later.

I think we'll end up higher but hard to argue with the poll at this point. G'town maybe the only one getting a big + in terms of favorable consideration. Seton Hall could potentially be better without Whitehead and should probably be at #3.

I prefer us where we are at the low end with promise of quite a few surprisingly impressive victories ahead of us.

If the poll is true to form, we can expect no more than 5-6 BE reg season wins.

I think we could matchup favorably with most teams in a lot of important ways like speed, athleticism, length, but could also see us beating upper teams and losing to lower. We had very good stretches against Xavier for example with a lesser lineup. Depaul will likely be the bottom but for us it could come down to a Battle of very experienced, extra large and skilled guards vs our small, inexperienced guys.

What I expect is that first time around the league we met get spanked a few times, but the second time around we will give some of those same teams a good run, perhaps pulling out a few surprise wins.

Georgetown has underachieved for several years under young Thompson
I wonder if he will be on the hot seat if they underachieve again this season
Or will Daddy's influence keep him employed regardless?

No we don't , you have to play the game. Omari was not ranked too much higher than Ponds. Anything can happen.

Totally agree. As Herm Edward said, "you have to play to win the game". G-D willing, Ponds will play and Spellman didn't do what he had to. Kudos to Ponds for being eligible.
