Big East Player of the Year

I have seen some reporters saying that Hilliard will win the award. I guess they are going with the "best player on the best team" mentality. But I don't agree with it here. If you take Hilliard off of Nova, they are still the best team in the conference. If you take Kris Dunn or Henton off of Providence or Pointer/Harrison off of SJU, you have a bottom of the league team.

My pick for the award would be Kris Dunn. Pointer would be a close second along with Hilliard/Henton/Harrison/Dunham also up for consideration.

I'm probably missing some kids but that's all I can remember at the moment.

Considering how D'Lo has struggled some the past few weeks with the injury bug, it's amazing that he's even considered for this award to be honest. Shows just how important he is.

But right now, this team goes where Dom takes it. His progress is the reason this board is even alive at this stage of the season. And Dom/D'Lo could split votes as well, so who knows?

Don't really care either...doubt they do either.

These men are thisclose to their first tourney, and that is all that matters.

Yesterday on Fox Sports Kevin O'Neil picked Pointer as the best player in the B.E. but thought it really should come from Villanova. Croshear went for Hilliard. Both agreed Delgado should warrant Rookie of the Year honors. O'Neil liked Lavin and Croshear thought Holtmann will be Coach of the Year while O'Neil cast his Defensive player of the Year for Pointer Croshear likes Dunn. As for B.E. First Team :
O'Neil

Pointer
Hilliard
Henton
Dunn
J. Smith
Roosevelt Jones

Croshear

Pointer
Hilliard
Smith - Rivera
Dunn
Henton
Dunham

Don't agree with Jones over Harrison, Dunham or Smith - Rivera and certainly disagree with O'Neil's choice of Josh Smith. UGH! Can't stay in any game without stupid fouls.

I think Croshear has it pretty spot on there. Maybe a little bias, but I think Pointer should win DPOY over Dunn, but the rest looks good.

In fact they used to use the D player of the year as kind of an award for the runnerup for POY. This explains how Mark Jackson among others won the defensive player of the year award.

I've been a huge Henton fan since his first game as a freshman, but that team would probably still make the tournament--or at least compete--without him. Without Dunn, they would be one of the three worst teams and that is really not up for debate.

IMO, it's a two-man race: Dunn and Pointer. My vote goes to Pointer.

Hilliard, Archie, Pinkston, and Ochefu cancel each other out in terms of individual honors.

I don't care very much for honors, since they are rarely definitive. They are subjective and you are at the mercy of the voters who haven't watched every minute of every big east contest.

All I know is that Dom meets the criteria for the award. He has elevated his own play to a point where there is no one in the Big East quite like him. In doing so he has elevated the team. Give the award to someone else and give us the bid to the dance.
