Big East Final Sets Fox Sports 1 Record

Below is an article entitled "Fox Sports 1 Sets a Low Bar With First Year Of Big East Basketball" which among other things indicates that ESPN averaged more than 3 time the viewership for ACC games than Fox Sports 1did for Big East games.

I am not sure that it is time for anyone to hit the "panic button" since it is only the first season of the Fox Sports 1 and most non Big East fans I speak to are not familiar with the station. I understand that ESPN's contract with the Big Ten is coming up for renewal in the next few years and Fox Sports is expected to attempt to outbid ESPN which would steer more viewers to Fox and help the Big East.

I've always wondered if those numbers are skewed due to the fact that just about every bar, restaurant, gym etc. has espn on their tv's. ESPN would obviously still out number fox but how many people "watching" espn are truly tuned in.

Whenever I go to any type of sports bar or restaurant that has TVs, I always make sure to ask them to put on FS1 if it's not showing. I do think that over the next few years FS1 is going to be super aggressive in going after every major contract that is up for renewal, especially if ESPN owns the current rights.

So they set their own record. That is like owning records for Monday night football. Fox Sports has been around for what 5 minutes. And in their first year their bell cow conference sets their record in the Tournament Championship game. Is this really surprising? Where is the great news? It didn't say they beat out espn or anything.

It's called "spin". How do you set a record in the first year? Otis's post nails the real story.
