Big blow for Syracuse

The article bemoans that now SU will only have 9 scholarship players which is pretty flush compared with the 6 that St.John's played with last season.

also, "Redken" is correct that Southerland's academic issues will be cleared by the end of the regular season.

Regardless, I wouldn't mind playing them without both Coleman and Southerland.

Never like to see a kid get injured, but man would it feel good beating Syracuse especially on their way out.

I'll never forget, I went to the game in the dome where Ingram went like 2 - 20 in 3's, but it was close at the end. I was getting taunted by the orange fans all day, some of it over the line, but nothing unexpected. And frankly, it the kind of intense environment I like, so no harm no foul. With about 1:30 left Grady Reyolds had a put back opportunity that would have cut it to 2 points. Of course he missed the lay up after pump faking like 2 times.

Regretfully, I yelled "Just dunk the 'effer' Grady".

There was a young girl in front of me who couldn't been more than 6 look back at me. I was so embarrassed, I apologized for my language.

She said "Shut the Ef up, St John's sucks" and the people with her, who I assume were her parents just laughed.

After that, they eclipsed duke as the team i hate the most.

I have watched most of Syracuse's games, not at all impressed with Coleman's game. He probably would have looked like an all star against us, especially if we start the game with our small lineup. Hopefully, Obekpa improves his defense against the biggies in the Big East. Dieng, Taylor and Adams are a few of the challenges Obekpa will be facing in the coming weeks.

Wow! I don't know what I would've exactly done in that situation, but I know I would've said something. Probably, not to the little girl, but to the folks near her who were laughing (although, I know some people who probably would've had that child picking her teeth up off the floor). A disrespective child is a no-no. You showed good restraint, my friend.

I'd love to beat them on their exit out of the Big East.

Memories from St. John's Syracuse games.

1984-85 season at the dome.

Early first half. Chris Mullin breakway, dribbles down the court, bounces the ball up high, jumps, grabs the ball with his left hand and dunks. 30,000 people dressed in orange were quiet the rest of the night.

After losing by double digtis, Boeheim tells his players to get something to eat and to report back in 2 hours for practice.

1985 -86 Season at MSG.

Big East Championship, Ron Rowan baseline jumper with about 8 seconds to go gives St. John's a 1 point lead (their only lead of the game), Pearl Washington mad dash (think Tyrus Edney several years later in the NCAAs) down the court, uncurls a layup only to have it blocked by the Truth, Walter Berry. Game over, St. John's BE Tourny Champs.
Afterwards a despondent Syracuse fan to his girlfriend "Well, they only led once in the game" Which my friend replied "Yeah, at the end, the only time it really counts!!!"

Later that night at a place called Runyons, Nova fans congratulating St. John's fans "Yeah, its great you beat the heathen snowmen from the north."

Otis, article is saying they have 9 scholarship players but with the injury and Southerland's academic issues, they are down to 7. And yes, just like Fab, they will clear up.

And while on the subject, this is Southerland's fifth year in the program (redshirted his freshman year). You are going to go through all of that, knowing and going through what is expected of you and now in your last year, you're going to screw up academically?

I don't remember the exact score at the point of the Mullin dunk, but it was something like 28-7, the capper on a run that Syracuse didn't recover from I don't believe we had ever seen Mullin dunk before, or after. Despite the Maravich-like flair on the dunk (high bouncing it to himself) it was not a thunderous dunk by any means, executing the dunk with what appeared to be close to the minimum elevation possible and grazing the rim instead of emphatically grabbing it. Still, the showtime flair from Mullin, whose usual flair was reserved only for Bird-like passing, was like a stun-gun to the crowd.

Boeheim maintained back then that Mullin was the greatest college basketball player he had ever seen.

On that note, sad injury for DaJuan Coleman, a top ten recruit who is from upstate NY. Boeheim outrecruited Kentucky for Coleman (who is surpsingly not related to Derrick Coleman), which is to his credit in a time where Calipari almost always seems to get who he wants. For all of our hatred for Boeheim, he seems to get a fair number of his former player's kids or relatives, most recently Brandon Triche, whose uncle Howard played for Boeheim in the 80's.

If Boeheim had his way, Syracuse would not have left the Big East. Money rules today, even if you are coached by one of the most successful coaches ever, a HOFer (and all time top whiner)

It's really hard to return such unexpected profanity from a small child after you've just exhibited boorish behavior and were embarrassed by it. It would be as if the little girl that Charles BArkley spit on (he calls it his most embarrassing moment of his career) has nailed him back with a lugie of her own.

In the end, I'd rather be RedStormrising, who realized how inappropriate his foul language was in front of a kid, than the kid's parents, whose approved of her choice of words.

I don't think I would've returned any profanity towards the child (I may have not even responded back at all to the child), but I know I would've said something to the parents or guardian of that rude child. I also know several people who would've had something to say to the child AND her parents. A child that tells one to not only "shut up," but to drop the most vulgar word of all profanity words is certainly grounds for one to react. I wouldn't have found nothing wrong, if he had said something to child and/or her parents.

Like I said, I respect what RedStormrising did. I have no problems whatsoever with his move. I (and, a few others I know) probably would've handled it differently.
