Belgium Beer found at Costco

Yesterday I discovered that Duvel and Le Chouffe are available at Costco. Had a bottle of Duvel last night. It's a major game changer. Strong, complex, sure to knock you on your ass with 8.5% alcohol. Makes Stella the Natty Light of Belgium:) :)

One of our favourite trips since moving to London was to Brussels, Brugge and Ghent. There you can drink the beer all night and not get a hangover.

I’m a big fan of Belgian beer. Leffe is one I can find frequently around here that I am a fan of.

Duvel is good.
But if you're a good Catholic (or not), you have to try some Trappist monk ales.
Start with Chimay Blue, which is available at most liquor stores.
And then graduate to Rochefort 6, 8, or 10, available at most large liquor stores.
These are subtle dark ales that have little to no bitterness but pack a punch.

Pre-retirement, I used to travel to Brussels occasionally as our European headquarters were there. Once when my kids were very young and we were going on Pentecost weekend so Monday was a holiday I took my wife and left the kids with grandma. We took the train to Brugge on the holiday and had some great beers as well as great food; Brugge is very picturesque. My wife got to take the speed train to Paris on a day I worked and loved it. Good times and great beer.
A couple of Christmas's ago my wife bought me a pack of assorted Belgian beers from World Market and I still have the Duvel beer glass that came with it. Thanks for the reminder so that I can subtly hint for a similar gift this year.
