I got to go to Big East media day a couple of years ago (Norms last year) and I got to interview him. Wish Lavin would be going but his health obviously is preventing him.

I like that Pitino was a little harsh on Piitt and Syr. If the Big 12 come looking for new members at least we have a chance to keep Louisville. If they did bolt, I wonder if Pitino would quit. Sounds like he is hell bent on staying in the Big East, and I am pretty sure he doesn't need the money.

I think it is great that Pitino is speaking his mind. He's right too. It wasn't a football move, it was a bbal move. The ACC was the premier bball league and we crushed them when we expanded. They already tried to squash us when they took V-tech, BC, Miami yet we still came out on top in bbal by far, and were close to on par in football.

Now the dopes at Pitt and Syracuse buy into this ACC charade to ruin us, and that's all it was/is. Pitino is right on this one. The ACC was never covering two mediocre at best football programs. They wanted to crush our bball league.

That all said, it makes an even stronger case for taking football schools that are bball powers like Temple and Memphis. Both have solid enough football programs, but once we can leverage e big east name, a school like Memphis can really take off. The shortsightedness of some of these big east schools is mind boggling.

At some point we need some of these schools to have a spine and try to build this league instead of escaping out of fear of exclusion. Gimme Memphis, temple and other programs so we can continue to crush the ACC on the basketball side of things and continue to be as competitive or more competitive than they are in football.

What is especially gratifying in Pitino's comments is how BC has fallen after moving to the ACC. Both their bball, andn fball programs are irrelevant. I look for the same irrelevance at Syr and Pitt, especially Syr which will lose senior statesman (sometimes) Boeheim in a year or two. And it will be difficult for Hopkins to attract the same talent. Same goes for UConn when Calhoun goes, they will become unattractive to other conferences.

People said the same thing about St. John's when Looie left and they were partially right , but these things cycle
and 'Cuse will be down post Boeheim but eventually will come back. However the rivalries will never be the same even if you still play each other.

For about an hour on ESPNU last night, Jay Bilas was lobbing softballs to the ACC basketball coaches about the expansion of the league. They were all gloating, saying the additions of Syracuse & Pitt put the conference in its rightful place, and that they are confident that two more teams will eventually be added. The smugness was unbearable, but what really got me was Coach K's arrogant comment that with super conferences like the new ACC now taking shape, the NCAA would likely have to change some of its rules on recruiting or else be out of the picture altogether, or words to that effect.

K's sentiments on the NCAA is what many of the Football top programs have been thinking for years. Watch what happens with the super conferences and the NCAA now.

Syracuse Football has been irrelevant for years.

After their performance, who doesn't think this was a basketball driven move with some fringe benefits for football?
