Baylor

We play Baylor at 6pm on Sunday on ESPN2 I believe.

This is a team with more size than us. This is a lineup that we will see when Big East play comes around. I think we need this win to show that we are a legit team to fans around the country. This is a game that could help us gain some national recognition but 3 of the first 4 games we have played have been nationally televised.

They may have more size, but Colorado just beat them playing one guy over 6'7" for more than 15 minutes (and that was a freshman). So, we may actually have more size that plays than the team that just beat them. Baylor will be tough, but we can beat them.

In these three games, we've been able to pull out in front in each, but have also shown an inability to completely put a team away. That opportunity may not present itself again on Sunday, but if it does, it would be great to see us hit another gear with our defensive intensity.

Austin really likes to hang along the perimeter. Jefferson is the big man who likes to bang down low. And we all know Gathers. You know he will be jacked up for the occasion. Heslip can stroke the 3 but has looked off thru two games in Charleston. Pierre Jackson is shot out of a cannon. Had like 8 or 9 three's in their game vs. BC. Wasn't on like that today. They go about 9-10 deep with Gathers, LJ Rose, Bello, Prince and sometimes Gary Franklin off the bench.

Speaking of Gathers, is he getting minutes for them?

Amazing how it works out in Murray State's favor all of this. You usually have to play a monster team in the championship. Considering we made Canaan a non-factor and we still lost, I don't see us pulling a rabbit out of the hat vs. Baylor. Hope they prove me utterly wrong, but signature wins is not something this team has been good at last year or this year thus far. I hope Baylor takes us lightly and we find our 3 pt stroke.

He has. And again I think I said on the other board but he hasn't looked good the past two games. And it pains me to say that because I loved his game and also that means he will probably have a field day with us. But vs. BC and Colorado today he looked pedestrian. Today he blew wide open dunk. A baby hook failed to draw rim and he just looks winded and not interested out there. The kid Jefferson has really impressed me for Baylor and Austin is freakish out there.

Why no Duke or ucla on this yrs schedule?

U mean Coach K does not want the johnnies at the garden every other yr?
Now we have a real HC that can recruit top talent & duke cancels that really sucks...........
so they beat on us thru the Roberts yrs & think we r not a competitive foe

UCLA has ties to Lavin how did we lose them???

NJIT instead of stony brook & florida gulf coast instead of hofstra thats kinda weakening your power rating

no queens college this yr?

Hopefully the day of rest will help Dom because we're going to need him. Pierre Jackson may be the quickest PG in the nation. If there is a player who can penetrate our zone, it's Jackson.

If we can "contain" Jackson, we have a shot. And by contain, I mean hold him under 20. He is just that good.

Isaiah Austin does not scare me. Until he learns that he can dominate if he plays down low, he doesn't scare me.

Obekpa has to avoid tacky tack fouls though. And D'Angelo has to play under control. I wan to see him playing off the ball more.

We haven't played a team yet that would be considered a signature win this year!

Agreed... but we have played two good/experienced mid-major squads and are about to take on a solid top 20 team in Baylor.

Win or Lose... these early season tests are teaching our young team some very valuable lessons. Which can only help us against the next few cupcakes & especially once the Big East season starts.

IMHO, nobody is going to want any part of this team once Jan/Feb rolls around... Go Johnnies!!

In our first 4 games we are/have played 3 of the best players and PG's in the country in Ray McCallum, Isaiah Canaan and Pierre Jackson. Will be hard pressed to find better so this is certainly good preparation.

I disagree.
Beating a Murray team laden with Sr's who won 30 games last year would have been a nice signature win to start the year. And if we won the tournament this whole weekend would have been 'signature'

I guess my definition of a signature win is slightly different than yours. I would consider a win against a top 10 team a signature win. Having said that, I agree with you totally that a victory against MS would have been special.
We all need to be a bit patient! The signature wins will come in the not so distant future.

A Murray St victory would absolutely be a signature win for us. If you fast forward to the NCAA selection and we are a bubble team, you will see our good wins chart with Murray St on there. They would certainly mention it when talking about us as a bubble team.
