This is not new. It's basically what Paul Westhead ran at Loyola Marymount in the late 1980s, with a few differences.
Loyola went for steals in the backcourt, but if they didn't get it, they'd give you the layup, in order to set up the three-pointer for themselves. I don't think that really works anymore (teams will likely take, and make, the open 3 now), but this is basically the same style, while plugging up that hole.
I love it personally, but I think it would have it's critics on here.
