Yes, it is that time of the year again when those of us who suffer from St. John's basketball addiction have to embarrassingly put our redmen gear away until next season dreaming of better game results and surprise last minute recruits who will thrust us to national relevance. All that remains of this year is one last game review.
Let me begin by saying I am proud that our talent challenged team almost stole one from a Marquette team coached by coach K protégé dunce in Wojo. Of course here I am giving credit to our players who, in spite of having equally poor coaching, strategy wise, took the "Warriors" and almost scalped them with our redmen tomahawks.
Christian Jones had the game of his career and will make North Texas State drool at the prospect of having him as their starting power forward next year. Good luck kid because you would be getting nowhere near the minutes next year with the new guys coming in. It is a shame that all your hard work last night was overshadowed by three consecutive bone headed offensive plays that our comatose staff, who saved 3 time outs in the final 5 minutes, could not get their collective noodles together to design better plays than basketball Jones driving to the basket uncontrollably.
As for the rest of the team, they played hard, as usual, but 7 turnovers in the first 5 minutes foretold of lousy and lazy passing to come. Safe to say none of them valued the ball and defensively parted the way to the basket better than Moses parted the Dead Sea.
Now to dream about next season with a brand new starting lineup of Lovett, Ponds, Amhed, Maker and "Livingston" I presume. Our current youngsters need a year off the bench and by year 3 should claim our first Big East Championship in 99 years.
Until then, let's all sing along:
