I'm not disputing what you are saying, but have no recolleciton of that. Could you provide more details?
What I do remember was that Barkley, even as a freshman, couldn't be rattled while at the point. When other teams pressed, as soon as the ball got into his hands, it was safe. Big East teams soon learned that, and when they pressed, once Barkley had the ball, they would fall back. He also could run the offense with precision, and was a great defender.
What he couldn't do was shoot well. He shot less than 40% from the field, and was no Allen Iverson in terms of being a low % shooter. I thought that would develop as his college career progressed, and that he would turn into a complete point guard, possibly a lottery pick. As it was, he was good enough to be selected as the 28th pick of the 1st round after just 2 seasons at SJU. He was compared to Stephon Marbury in scouting reports.

His NBA career lasted 27 games over 2 seasons. IMO, had he stayed and developed, he could have had a solid NBA career.
had he stayed, his college career would have been compared favorably to mark jackson's...
the ncaa harassed him into leaving...big bucks and all.
