Balomou

I know he is trying and is probably a good kid but Balomou must think he is Pete Marovich as he goes to the hoop constantly without ever looking for the free man. I dont know what his shooting percentage was but considering the shots were under the basket I have a feeling that it was very poor. When he did pass while under the basket it was like a throwaway and seemed to always wind up in the hand of some Fordham player.
BTW I believe there were at least 6 times that he got the ball from Mussini, Mussini then got free and he never passed it back and never even looked at him. I know we dont have a point guard but this kid is getting too many minutes.

Other than Balamou having as many assists as the rest of his team mates combined what did you not like about his game?

If he is going to be the top scorer on this team then this team is going to lose a ton of games. I didnt like his constant drives to the basket and the shots he attempted over bigger men, his failure to look to pass first and as I said there had to be at least 6 times Mussini gave him the ball and then Mussini got free but he never looked back at him or passed, He just drove to the basket. He is getting too many minutes
Someone needs to tell him he isnt Pistol Pete

They're going to lose a ton of games no matter who's the top scorer.

Not sure why you are picking Balamou as the useless Senior in this game. That goes hands down to Durand Johnson.

05 Johnson, Durand..... 1-8 0-3 4-4 0 3 3 2 6 2 4 0 0 26
10 Balamou, Felix...... 5-7 0-0 4-4 2 3 5 1 14 5 3 0 1 31

Felix shot 5-7 scored 14 points with five assists, five rebounds and a steal. He had three turnovers.
Durand shot 1-8 scored six points with two assists, three rebounds, 0 steals. He had four turnovers.

So far this season, Durand hasn't seen a shot that he doesn't like
Unfortunately, a marksman he is not
His nickname should be "The Gunner"

The timing and/or purpose of this thread is a real headscratcher. Anybody that had to sit through that performance last night and came away with knocking balamou needs his head examined. And believe me i will never be the first to start the balamou fan club but please give us a break with such nonsense commentary.

Must say the maturity & experience we expected from Johnson is not there. To date, he simply forces things & takes a lot of off balance shots. On defense early, he lost Thomas time after time early, killing us. If Ellison ever gets out of the MASH unit, we may be better served, net of a Johnson "rebirth", investing in him. We will take our lumps anyway.

Re: Felix, he is certainly not a star, plays a schoolyard type game, but has made some positive plays. I do wish his handle was better though to be kind. :)

It would be nice if you could at least spell his name right. :p

I agree 100%. Are you still an advocate of him playing the point? I think in a better situation he is a 15 minute per game guy who upsets the tempo with his energy and occasionally grabs a huge offensive rebounds, blocks a shot, makes a short jumper. Anything beyond that is above his logical ceiling. His stats will be above that this year because the team is devoid of talent.

I would not in full court, but with absence of anyone with a handle, in half court sets (on limited basis) would have him drive & kick to Mussini. In reality it won't much matter in the end, but would like to see Mussini play off the ball as much as possible to avoid getting frustrated. Custer at the LIttle Big Horn like strategy I suppose. :)

Without going into much detail, Mussini, even off the ball, is going to have an extremely rough go the rest of the season. Opponents know he is a legitimate outside threat, and they will hound him and let others beat us. Without a lot of speed, lack of size and without a lot of talent around him, it will be increasingly more difficult for him to get off high percentage shots. Throw into this that guards are going to be more athletic and more talented as we move into the league part of our schedule, and I think he is going to have a tough time until more talent surrounds him. Already over the past 3 games, his 3 point % has tailed off quite a bit, and its in part due to an awareness that if wide open, can nail shot after shot.

Assist/Turnover stats from our last 4 games against D1 competition-- Rutgers, Vanderbilt, Indiana and Fordham:

Mussini: 3 assists, 15 turnovers
Balamou: 16 assists, 7 turnovers

No, Balamou is not an ideal option at PG, but Mussini surely isn't either--and he didn't sign up for playing PG, so I give him full credit for taking the load.

And see how Balamou stats go south if asked to play the point. As Paultzman has pointed out he has been effective scoring and passing out of half court sets; playing point guard is an entirely different thing. I am afraid that that will change as teams start to understand they just need to play off him because he can't shoot; that adjustment will happen just as teams are making the adjustment to Mussini. Nothing is going to change the fact that we don't have a point guard and it hurts big time.

Felix is an upper class guy who can guide the young guys. We all know they need it.

He's pereserved through more stuff (NCAA, coaching change, injuries, unstable team mates, screwed out of a year by a lousy system, etc...) than anyone in college hoops. This guy must have pretty strong character.

Plus the energy he brings to the team in these early season games has been a great boost.

We should be thanking this guy.

Really low on Williams there. I think he can be a big contributor for this team once he is fully healthy and comfortable. Remember, the kid has played 3 games in D1 so far.
