Before anyone gives credit where it is not deserving, Soriano averaged 10 and 9 as a Sophomore at Fordham. I thought he was underutilized last year.
Joel was always a competitor. Maybe he was a little underutilized last season. Really though it was the hard work he put in to get himself in great shape. That let him be on the floor for most of the game and to fully utilize his skills and average close to 15 and 12 in Big East games. I give the majority of the credit to Joel because he put in the work.

Last season, Joel looked overmatched against the Big East's more athletic centers. Not this year. He put in the work and deserves all the credit.
The difference in his game compared to last year is night and day. His skill set last year wasn't close to what it was this year. He has developed some moves to the basket, a jump hook and a jumper. I don't think he was underutilized last year at all and what he did this year was against better competition (especially in the middle) than what he faced his sophomore year at Fordham in the A 10.

As much as hate to say it you can't discount CMA's development of the kid.

It is unfair to poop on him for all the bad things and completely discount the good things.
I am not a CMA hater. Really liked the job he did the first 2 seasons. This year, however, was awful for CMA. There is no escaping that. I have no idea how much work the staff put in with Joel. Whatever it was, CMA loses points for failing to surround Joel with reliable 3 point threats and a steady playmaker. Joel faced double teams all season. That is on CMA.

That's one of the things that has made CMA's tenure so frustrating.

There are actually good things that have happened: improvement of Champagnie, Soriano, etc., recruiting local powerhouses, having full rosters, working light years harder than the prior regime, no embarrassments, etc.

But there are more well-documented minuses and the overall body of work is a failure.

Watched a lot of him at Fordham. He had that jump hook move and played well at Fordham. Obviously played much better in his second year with us than his first and was in much better shape.

He might have had it at Fordham (I’ll take your word for it) but we didn’t see a whole lot of it last year.

Two things I neglected to mention in my previous post was how asserted he has been this year on offensive in not just demanding the ball but in his positioning and his rebounding. He is also a good passer. Just though a great job this year that IMHO was worthy of all Big East 1st Team even with the minor slump he had.

Definitely on both counts. His ppm went up by 50%, his rpm up 35%. Those are pretty big numbers indicating vast improvement year on year.

100% agree. It's those other things gets me so annoyed.

Our roster isn’t so full. Lost Mathis and Keita sp? to injury and Curbelo and Pinzon ,disciplinary reasons.

IMO Keita was never going to get minutes though actually barely any minutes if not a bunch of DNPs. Mathis is fair but injuries happen to all teams and he wasn’t our best player.

Curbelo and Pinzon fall on CMA. He recruited them they are his players hood or bad that falls on him

Congrats to Joel and Storr well deserved

Agree completely on a vastly improved Soriano, but the numbers are slightly inflated due to our lack of viable scoring options and lack of size up front.

True but then you have to consider, with arguably the best center the school has had in decades, at 7-13, Anderson lost almost twice as many Big East games as he won. Congrats to Joel for the hard work he put in over last summer.
