Atlantis/Maui 2014

We appear to be in neither field. Atlantis just announced their teams and Maui's teams are on their site as well.

Note- in Atlantis Butler and Gtown are in the field as both committed prior to BE merge. They will be place in opposite ends of the bracket.

Moose - I thought we were set to go to Maui in 2014 or 2015
Are we still in the mix for 2015?

Months ago I heard those were the next two tournaments. Lets hope 2015. Always room for preseason NIT I guess in 14

Are we "on cycle" for the pre-season NIT in 2014?
We're allowed to be included once every 5 years?

They last played in 2008, so 2014 should be a possibility.

I don't know if there is a cycle but if there is I doubt it would be 5 years.

Last I heard it was once every four years but not sure if it has been changed.

I believe International events are limited to once every four years. I don't know if Maui is considered one since it is Hawaii. I have no idea what, if any, restrictions there are on domestic tournaments.

As far as I know, St. John's is on track to be in Maui in 2015. Indiana is expected to be one of the other teams that year as well.

Something may have changed but I don't believe so.

I thought that was pre-season events like we just did that were once every 4. Again, no definitive idea.

It looks like each school has its own "booster package" for the trip. Just as an example, the Syracuse one is $2038.00 and that includes 5 nights at the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa, game tickets for all 3 games, ticket to a Tip Off Banquet with players & coaches, round trip on island, airport & game day transportation, and tournament souvenirs. Airfare not included however. So start saving your pennies for 2015 just in case.

Funny. I went to the Aloha Classic in 76. Package was $500 for airfare, hotel (8 days) and game tickets. We had a good team but got seeded against #1 USF with Cartwright, Boynes and Hardy. Lost and relegated to loser bracket.

Think it is once every 5 years for a summer trip, once every 4 for pre season Nit and no limit on in season tourneys unless it is just Duke who seems to play in one every year.

No limit on how often you can play in a preseason tournament, you just can't play in the same one more then once every four years.

Well now I can rule out Maui as a potential 2014 honeymoon for me that would coincidentally coincide with SJU basketball games there

I believe that it is 4 years for a summer trip, 4 years for Pre Season NIT and no limit for in season tourneys
I don't believe that there are restrictions regarding tourneys in Hawaii or Alaska

Bama is right, its 4 years for 'exempt' tourneys. Per a 2006 article I found where the old 2 in 4 year was overturned. Those are tournaments with more than two games I think. Aka not the Holiday Festival etc.
So thats NIT, Maui, Atlantis, Alaska, Puerto Rico, whatever else ones you can think of.

Do you know if that's 4 years for any of those tourneys or if it's 4 years for an individual one. For example can you do the Maui one year and the NIT the next year?

Yeah you just can't repeat within the 4. You can do 4 years of NIT, Maui, Atlantis, Puerto Rico or something similar.
