Article: The Best SJU Game of the 2000s

The article mentions a free throw with a few seconds remaining. The free throw by Marcus came with no time left, so he made it on an empty court.

I decided to visit my gf at her college in Ithaca that weekend because I was so disappointed with how the season was going and I didn't think we had a chance. I watched the game from her dorm room, and I regretted instantly. I was going crazy.

I'm sorry but this article is a poor recap for highlighting such a great game. Why no mention of the fact that it was tied and Duke had the ball holding for the last shot, and Marcus pulled off one of his patented gamble steals and was fouled as time expired, hitting the first free throw on an open court?

Anyway, I'll never forget being there. I was with a friend who at the time was in high school and St. John's had provided her courtesy tickets since she was considering going there. I was at UConn as a Sophomore at the time, and we took the Amtrak down from Hartford. So glad I made the trip.

Definitely one of the highlights of the post-2000 era. Loved beating Duke and the drama of the free throw on the empty court.

Can't decide whether I choose this or the Hardy game winner vs. Pitt as the top game of the past 15 years.

The famous walkoff free throw game. Who can ever forget it. And you're right, not only did Mo hit the free throws on an empty floor, he stole the dam ball to set it up. What a performance.

Got to go with Pittsburg and was he out of bounds

The shot came before his foot landed.

Actually, both of Hardys feet were across the baseline when he put the shot up. However, he was on his toes and his heels weren't touching ground, making him inbounds.

Not even the best game against duke which was three years earlier in Cameron. Still Duke's last non conference home loss. Boosty with the game winner.

What I remember about this game with Duke is that in the beginning Dahntay Jones was killing us. Then Jarvis put in Eric King who played great defense on him and which helped us make that big comeback. Never understood why after a decent freshman season, Jarvis buried Eric on the bench. When we beat Wake Forest at the Garden during his freshman year, Eric outplayed Josh Howard and had 18pts and 9 rebs. He shut down Jason Kapono of UCLA. He ended up transferring to Tennessee St. after his Sophmore year.

I was at that game with a bunch of Duke fans, so sweet to get that W.

We played another game against Duke at the Garden, an OT loss that was spectacular, even though it was a “L”. Maybe not the 2000’s though?

The win down in Cameron I found myself in a sports bar in Disney, Orlando, by myself, and loving every minute of it!

Think it was 98, duke was undefeated and we were ranked top ten in the country. There only loss was the national championship vs uconn if I remember correctly.

The Hatten free throw game is a great memory, but for me the best game in this century is the other Duke game, Lavin's first year, when we just spanked them.

That was different to me because we were a team going places that year and we had been shellacked by Duke quite often the previous years (a few I was unlucky enough to be at and surrounded by their jackass fans). We just beat them so thoroughly, and it was during the middle of the day, national TV (CBS) and...we just humiliated them. I had to pinch myself after Brownlee's dunk in the lane.

The Hardy game versus Pitt that same year is 2nd. Beating Villanova in Philly that year was pretty gratifying too. Christ, we beat so many teams I hate that year. What a season.

I'm not looking it up but that was Duke's only non-ACC home loss in like 15 freaking years. I'd pick that win but that was still in the 90s. Humiliating Steve Francis and UM in the sweet 16 tops that though.

Every REDMEN fan would love to see some return to glory that was once our domain. With one or two years being excepted , the last 13 years have been really hard to accept for a once proud program. Why have we slipped so far from a great heritage?

There are many, many reasons mostly through poor Management from the former President, who presided over the decline and made very poor choices in Coaches, Ad's, and other school administrators.

We've become NY BASKETBALL'S equivalent of the JETS AND METS. Mediocre results at best.. If this isn't a NCAA YEAR , the program needs new Management.. It's time for Lavin and this team to deliver results, not more rhetoric.

Really, there's only one right answer for this thread.
