Article: SJU Needs Jordan To Pick Up His Game

So does Jamal branch.

I hate to say it, but I think at this point what you see is what you get, with both guys. Branch is steady but very limited. Sheed is inconsistent but has huge upside and is capable of a big performance every game. But ya just never know which Sheed you're gonna get from game to game.

I think you're probably right Monte.

I've been a big Branch fan, but he just hasn't developed that second gear to run the offense full-time. And he goes to the rim too weakly. Every shot is an underhanded scoop layup, or a reverse. I had very high hopes for Branch these past two seasons, and he just hasn't materialized into the point guard we could use.

Agree 100%. I am starting to believe that Jordan at this point in his development is incapable of stringing together 5 or 6 high quality games where he shoots, defends, and passes well with low turnovers. Prove me wrong, I'd be thrilled, but I don't see it.

The game against DePaul was a garbage performance no matter what the stat line says.

Personally, I wouldn't call Jordan's DePaul outing a garbage performance at all. I thought he was pretty solid. But in general he needs to settle down. There's always a ticking time bomb aspect to him.

You don't win games when you turn it over 4 times, and are part of a porous defense that let DePaul open for multiple threes. He makes bad decisions taking the ball to the hole, and throws sloppy passes. I know what his ceiling is, but his floor can be pretty low also. Also, I'd venture that he never quite seems to be part of the squad.

In some ways he reminds me of Sampson: Athletically gifted, showing flashes of brilliance, but even at that oftentimes not playing within the framework of the team.

If he wants to play at the next level, he'd better start playing with the focus and confidence necessary to win games. If Obekpa and Jordan were both NBA caliber players right now, along with Harrison, Pointer, and Greene, we'd be talking how high our tourney seed is going to be, not about the likelihood of missing again.

Certainly agree with you on the "not part of the squad" aspect. It's been there from Day One, for whatever reason. Hope he gets it and keeps it together.
