Interesting article. Will be some change for sure. I've seen Galloway's TED talk on Amazon and he's a forward thinker.. interesting take on future of higher ed. Will evolve and I can see partnerships between elite schools licensing their name professor/copr partners and classes to other schools in a guest speaker kind of way.

The Coming Disruption Scott Galloway predicts a handful of elite cyborg universities will soon monopolize higher education.

Great topic.

I travel a lot domestically for work. Sometimes I am in a city and see those banners they put on lightpoles that have a prominent university name, and I realize that school isn't located in that city.

Hospital networks such as Northwell established a huge network leveraging the good name of Northshore University Hospital and LIJ by slapping that name (Northshore/LIJ was the previous name) on some hospitals that did not have as good a reputation. No question that typically there are often more than cosmetic changes, and the smaller, lesser regarded facilities often send more acutely ill patients to the main campuses.

On Long Island, NYU/Langone has spread its network to many hospitals, leveraging the NYU name. Sloan Kettering operated two satellite service at Mercy Hospital in RVC and in Commack before opening up a new larger facility of its own across the street from Hofstra and the Nassau Coliseum. And so on and so on.

Universities spreading out by affiliating with lesser institutions is a very interesting, but similar concept. Let's say Notre Dame affiliated with Molloy College, providing some level of visiting faculty, coursework in Cambridge, or any number of opportunities. A Harvard Long Island campus would have great appeal should those sorts of things occur.

What it really amounts to is the commercialization of the name of a university to bring in greater revenue and reach. Wow, it's really an interesting topic to me, whether I agree or not.

Besides the ones you noted it is getting harder and harder to find something not labelled Mt. Sinai or Montefiore.

I agree, quite interesting.

Imagine Siena College, Manhattan College and Long Island University all having live feeds in their classrooms & virtually from an accomplished name professor who is in residence at Harvard, Pomona or Rice. They are teaching live and then others bolt on.

Smalleger olleges become more and more like the hospitality industry...offering room, board and amenities.

All doomsday guesses but there is some reality at a minimum of massive open online courses (MOOC) that these elite schools can offer for a fraction of a price tag and people begin to take individual courses or a degree program.

Elite universities partnering with major names in industry from a dual brand marketing perspective is the cherry on top, or nail in the coffin for small schools. Time will tell.

If things go this way would live to see St. John's get out in front of this partnering with major NYC based companies to bring in their talent and name in pharma, finance, insurance etc.

I would imagine that it would be much more than you suggest, and would result in renaming schools, and leveraging the brand, tuition would rise.

Imagine if georgetown too over another Jesuit school and it was renamed Georgetown University, Scranton campus. With some relationships to the dc campus, the academic profile and applications would increase. The school would increase tuition as a result in order to ostensibly cover the cost of visiting or floating professors, programs at the dc campus open to students from.scrantin, etc.
