Artest and 99 Team

You’ve been holding that in for 20 years. Had to feel good letting it out!:)

Really good point. Those kids were mentally and physically tough!!!!!! That was a tough game.

Chudney Gray missing 1 of 2 free throws that would have tied the game with 12.2 seconds remaining always gets overlooked.

Love Ron Artest. I remember seeing him a few years ago on Larry King, he was auctioning off his NBA Championship ring to support mental health initiatives. Great player and seems like a great guy.

That 99 team was a team of warriors and real fighters. They had heart. They would eat this team for breakfast lunch and dinner and then dessert all in one sitting.

Also that was the year you had 3 local kids get drafted, arrest, Odom and szerbiack. When is the next time that will happen?

My father and I say this to each other at least once a year. At random times. It’s become a running joke.

But seriously f him

Artest may not have been the best player we every had, but he was the most unique in talent.

6'7", but he could have been a great point guard, if we needed him to be.

Could also body up against bigger, stronger frontcourt guys.

Great passer.

Great defender (won NBA Defensive Player of the Year).

Great leaping ability.

Not a great shooter, but if you left him open, he usually made you pay.

I've followed the team since the late 80s. He is the closest I've seen (among SJU guys) to being a "total package" player.

There were so many reasons why comparing this years team to that years team turned out be a pipe dream. Ron Artest is reason 1. I have been watching since the Mullin days and he is also one of my all time favorites.
