IS ST. JOHN’S THE MOST TALENTED TEAM HEADING INTO THE NEW BIG EAST NEXT SEASON?

Without question.

After Vander Blue’s decision to leave Marquette for the NBA, the Red Storm immediately became the Big East’s team to beat next season.

St. John’s still has to gel as a unit to outlast schools like Villanova, Providence, and Xavier in the final standings, but the upside on this roster is off the charts.

Steve Lavin’s team will likely return their top five scorers from last year’s team that went 17-16 as well as burgeoning shot blocker Chris Obekpa, who averaged 4.0 blocks per game as a freshman.

The Red Storm will also add highly-skilled forward Orlando Sanchez, and blue chip guard Rysheed Jordan, who committed to St. John’s last week.

Anything less than a place in the field of 68 will be a major disappointment for this group.

The pressure is officially on. Have to agree with a lot of what the article said. There is no reason for us not to be an NCAA team next year, provided as I have said on another thread that we: demonstrate we can shoot from the outside, hit free throws, rebound, do a better job defending against the 3 & get improved PG play, other than that, we are in good shape. ; )

The article must have forgotten the fact that G'town is also in the BE.. They lose Porter but, get back Wigginston.

While I like all the accolades coming in and hope they bear fruition ,no championship is ever decided in the pre-season or before teams play.

Sure, we have talent individually, the key is that the parts must gel together.. Lavin will be at the controls and this next season will determine whether he can get the orchestra to play a symhony

we better be careful about the UCLA effect where our fan base has unrealistic expectations about the team. Even though most of us would agree that next year's team is NCAA bound, i have read on this board and others that the 2013-2014 team is a elite eight/final four team. Sorry about the pessimism. It is end of the Jarvis years and norm years that have made me cynical.

Obviously need to replace Aaron Cosby with Brandon Mobely.

But it's an OK cheat sheet to save for reminders in the fall.

Combine that with the ESPN Top 100 recruits:
22 - Rysheed Jordan, STJ
24 - Zak Irvin, Marquette
49 - Deonte Burton, Marquette
55 - Duane Wilson, Marquette
56 - Brandon Austin, Providence
59 - Kris Jenkins, Villanova
66 - Reggie Cameron, Georgetown
89 - Brandon Randolph, Xavier
90 - Billy Garrett Jr, DePaul
91 - Josh Hart, Villanova

Transfers In:
Carson DeRosiers, Wake Forest to Providence
Dylan Ennis, Rice to Villanova
Sterling Gibbs, Texas to Seton Hall
Tyler Harris, NC State to Providence
Max Hooper, Harvard to St Johns\
Josh Smith, UCLA to Georgetown
Matt Stainbrook, Western Michigan to Xavier

This thread can help those who actually have lives, unlike myself, keep updated and prepared for the new season.

Rankings are obviously not everything, but it is interesting to note that STJ has the most returning top 100 RSCI rated recruits in the conference (by a quick glance at three years of RSCI's and transfers that I knew off hand).

STJ - #35 Pointer, #40 Sampson, #47 Harrison #52 Branch, and #69 Obekpa.
G'town - #37 Smith-Rivera, #42 Lubick, #94 Starks, and #98 Hopkins
Nova - #44 Ochefu, #46 Pinkston, #55 Arciadiacano, #65 Bell
Marquette - #40 Jamil Wilson (Oregon transfer) and #82 Steve Taylor

I know you said "returning....." But you can also add Josh Smith (#18, per RSCI) to G'town, as he sat out (as, a transfer) most of last season. He'll be eligible in December.

Good point. Ok, let's make it "STJ has the most returning top 75 RSCI rated players" :) Rankings are just rankings but it does feel nice to know that in almost every quantifiable way (average ranking, experience of ranked players, etc) STJ is on top. It's been a long time.

Draft Express 2014 Mock Draft has Jakarr as the 7th pick in th 2nd round.

Obviously very early.

Porter was rated much higher by them for a long time. He was projected to be a first rounder if he left after his freshman year and a lottery or near lottery if he returned.

They had a similar ranking on Otto Porter last year. We'll see if he blows up like Otto, but those rankings don't mean much at the moment.

I remember last year they had him in the 2nd. Could be wrong though and mightve been on a different mock draft website.

Do you by any chance have a link to previous versions?

Don't laugh Moose. Hear coach has big plans for Jamal if ncaa grants him another year of eligibility. Along with Lipscomb of course. :)
