APR Score

This is embarrassing and I'm shocked that Providence was lower than us...shocked. It has a much better academic reputation and is way more selective than SJ. I wish SJ would become selective but unfortunately I doubt that will ever happen since the school seems to have a "flip coin" policy on getting in at the undergrad level. The new President has his/her work cut out for them.

You realize these figures are only for the scholarship players on the basketball team and have no relation to the schools overall academic rankings or assessment, right? If not I'm shocked and embarrassed.

PS it's for the 11/12 roster. That team had what, 7 guys on it? LOL

Ah, good point. Forgot it wasn't the current roster. But anyway, even though it's for the athletes and not mainstream students, it's still troubling. I won't lie though, it's probably next to impossible to find studs in the classroom as well as on the court simultaneously. If you don't take chances on lower-achieving athletes you won't get very far in college athletics unfortunately.

Its not about gpa or how smart any of the guys are. So Hooper won't help much.

The APR is calculated for all players getting an athletic scholarship. They get one point for being eligible, and one point for staying in school the whole year.
You add up the teams points and divide it by the highest possible amount they could have scored, and x1000.

For the two seasons prior to this we had a ton of departures; Nuri left, Stith left, Moe left early (I believe) etc. That hurt our APR.

Next year our number should increase dramatically if everyone stays in school for the full year.

West Virginia had a perfect score. Still think it is about academics?

How many players on Bob Huggin's team do you think could get admitted to Notre Dame even with some lax admissions for ND athletes?

It is a bit misleading in terms of defining academics at a school to say the least.

Yet this year what did he have 3 transfers or something? So that will even out provided the kids flew the coop before the semester ended.

Transfers don't hurt as much as long as they finish the semester.

Again obviously a higher score is better and it is a noble effort but again I would hardly consider it an academic standard. Syracuse probably got burned having both Southerland and Melo suspended for academic reasons in addition to Melo dropping out of school.

As long as SJU maintains fairly deep roster and their kids show discipline in the classroom and stay engaged SJU will be fine going forward.

Remember these are a 4 year average.

Keno Davis. He single handidly almost destroyed this program. Cooley has the team on the right track. This years numbers will be somewhere around 975 even with Ledo leaving to go pro.
