:I was at St. Johns Bread and Life today and met Jakarr Samson and Chris Obekpa and coach Mo Hicks . told them I was planning on getting to midnight ( 7PM ) madness but that I was very nervous about the proposed dunking contest . I was in Carnesecca for the last dunking contest when we lost a player for the season as a result of the dunk contest. Anyone else there that night ?

I'd argue that they have a much better chance of getting injured during a typical practice than a dunk contest.

Agree. In addition, I think we have an entirely different level of dunker than Jermaine Maybank. These kids have all been winning dunk contests for years and are much more effortless at it. Let em dunk...

Jakarr Sampson dunks as easily as we tie our shoes. I'm not worried...it would be a freak accident.

They have had a boatload on dunk contests since Maybank was injured. So that wasn't the 'last'.
Every school has them.
Should we wrap them in bubble wrap when they don't practice.

Thank you in advance for the mush :)

What fun are new toys when you can't play with them? Would you rather have a Corvette and show it off speeding down the LIE or would you rather keep it parked in your driveway because you were scared of it getting scratched? Lol

Scary thing is that I'm not sure Jakarr would even win. We have about 7 guys that could take it... Pretty crazy. My money on Christian Jones at this point but only by a hair...

I had no idea Jones could dunk like that. Still though I just think Sampson is more explosive and lanky...he is a freak and he looks like he's made out of rubber when he dunks with springs in his shoes.

More bounce? Watch Jones' near FT line dunk at the end, which is effortless. Kid can leap. So can Jakarr, Amir, Sir'Dom, Orlando, Felix etc....

Wow...so why wasn't this kid recruited harder? That is the only thing that gives me reservations about him but he definitely will be amazing off the bench.

OMG Forget about this kid being under the radar. Helps make up for loss of Gathers as a this kid is also a beast. :)

We can not protect them from everything Dunking is part of the game. Let-em loose

I think Jones is going to be a very pleasant surprise for all of us.

Agreed, should have a very solid 4 year career at SJU.
Looking forward to watching him play.

He will probably come along slowly as he needs to improve his shooting and ball handling. this is all right since we don't need him to contribute a lot right now. However, I think that by his junior year, he will be one of the mainstays of this program. This is not a knock on him, just stating my observation. If we look back, this is how it used to be. Kids would come in and learn then by their junior year they would be ready to take over.
Aside from places like Kentucky, I believe that this is how you build and sustain a successful program.

he reminds me of super dunker tyler jones. hopefully, with the right coaching, he'll have a much better career here.
