Very nice event last night at the Roosevelt Hotel. The room was filled with over 200 attendees, and our coaching staff, Athletic department, and current players well represented.
Mike Cragg gave a brief but powerful welcome speech, explaining that it is his dream to be here, and his goal is to win an NCAA championship. His wife is a really down to earth nice lady.
Mike Anderson reiterated that his goal is to bring home an NCAA title to St. John's. Some of his better lines:
The end goal is 40 minutes of hell, but early on it may sometimes be 25 minutes of hell and 15 minutes of "What the hell is going on"
He said that from day one he has worked his players very hard, with the goal that they all throw up from being pushed so hard. He said it didn't happen on Day 1, but on day two a lot of guys were using the bucket he keeps on the side of the court to heave. He then said, he doesn't know how this happened but one guy said he was so sick that he "S-H-I-T" (he spelled it out) which was really funny
Once session was with CMA and Mustafa Heron. Heron is a well spoken young man, and it's hard not to wish him the best this season and root very hard for him to have a great season.
Nolan Richardson spoke about his strategy (which is MA's strategy) of playing the game the way no other teams play, so that everyone has to prepare to play his team, not the other way around. He said the objective is to stop his opponents on defense and outscore them on offense so that his teams have 2 ways to win.
He said there's a big difference between players who love to play and those that lto win. He will take the latter every time.
Both Mike and Nolan brought a whole lot of country into the room.
Mike A. welcomed all fans to stop by and see him. If he is available he will make a little time. Very likeable guy.
Great to see JSJ, FanSince65, and even spotted Panther across the room. Redmen.com well represented.
Chatted with women's HC Joe Tartamella for a while. He;s good friends with RMN and thinks the world of him, as do we. Great guy, no airs about him whatsoever.
All in all, program is in very capable hands with Mike Cragg and CMA.
